Republican front-runner Donald Trump said Thursday he is softening his stance on visas for highly-skilled workers.
Im changing. We need highly-skilled people in this country, Trump said during the Fox News Republican debate in Detroit. If we cant do it, we will get them in.
Trumps stance toward awarding H1-B visas is different from the one he takes on his campaign website, which argues that more visas for highly-skilled foreigners would decimate American workers.
One of the biggest problems we have is people go to the best colleges as soon as theyre finished, they get shoved out. They want to stay in this country," Trump said at the debate. "They want to stay here desperately. Theyre not able to stay here. For that purpose, we absolutely have to be able to keep the brainpower in this country.
Trump said he was now in favor of the H1B-visa program - despite what his website still says.
So you are abandoning the position on your website? Fox News debate moderator Megyn Kelly asked.
Im changing it and Im softening the position because we have to have talented people in this country, Trump said.

“And he also says he’s against them: Link.
So which Trump do we believe? The one last night or the one this morning?”
Looks like he’s clarifying what he said last night by differentiating between talented people who immigrate here legally, get educated, become citizens and want to stay, vs. using the H-1B as a cheap labor program, a practice he would eliminate.
What position is that?
“So now he and Cruz agree.”
Sure sounds like it
That is so clearly not a contradiction, and it amazes me that people don’t see the distinction.
When it comes to whether Donald Trump will actually do the common understanding of what he says, I don't believe a word.
I don't caucus with people not wanting to halt immigration. I am not anti-immigration per say.
I suggest you rewrite that first sentence. "Not wanting to halt" means "wanting to maintain." So, if you won't caucus with people who want to maintain immigration, you would be against all immigration, which contradicts your next sentence.
So the H1B abuse and crap will continue with Trump.... Looks like he drank the globalist kool aid on this one.
Not anymore, I don’t.....
The reality is not only does he receive support he receives vast support across all demographics. Including Hispanics as witnessed in one small Texas town populated by a majority of Hispanics.
tRump supporters say 'Yes'!
Marvelous. This is the one glaring thing I have against Cruz. I actually don’t mind the original H1B visa problem, but it’s been blown up to the point that there’s no practical restrictions anymore.
Much better to send these ‘highly-skilled’ college grads back home to raise the standard of living in their home countries than to stifle jobs and wages here.
Yea, I screwed up the sentence - typing on a pad is not easy for my fingers. I am not anti immigration and my support for Trump has to do with me being against illegal immigration. So visa program arguments are meaningless to me. That is not my thrust.
"Megyn Kelly asked about highly-skilled immigration. The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. I remain totally committed to eliminating rampant, widespread H-1B abuse and ending outrageous practices such as those that occurred at Disney in Florida when Americans were forced to train their foreign replacements. I will end forever the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program, and institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions."
For my trouble, I have been called a "traitor," an "open borders lover," and even received death threats (public and private).
So nice to see the forum coming around to my point of view. /s
Don't fret. He'll have an entirely new position on {enter issue here} in a couple days.
Trump apologists see this as an attempt by Trump to go back to the ORIGINAL INTENT of H1-B — to allow the HIGHLY SPECIALIZED, HIGHLY SKILLED ( e.g. the Albert Einstein’s of the world ) to get a fast track.
Whether this is the case or not, I don’t know.
Just like the apologists for Pope Francis every time he says something controversial, people tend to “read their own interpretations” into what he says.
In other words -— they want to give him ALL benefit of the doubt.
I am not against immigration, but I am opposed to the rate of immigration from the developing world AND unalterably opposed to and wish to reverse Muslim immigration. I believe it impossible for a Muslim to take the oath of citizenship and so remain.
That said, then you are apparently FOR the Donald's proposal to transform the bulk of our existing illegal immigrants into legal immigrants and therefore future Democrats?
I actually have no problem with Cruz. This is not a make or break issue considering all the much bigger issues we have to deal with. NO candidate is going to be perfectly in line with me. I accept that.
The problem here is when you wrap yourself, as Team Cruz, has done in the white robes of perfect poltical purity, the dirt stains of errors is so much more obvious.
If you want to damn Trump for “flip flopping, you can not give Cruz a pass on the same charge
