Some faculty members at the University of Houston say sensitive subjects may become taboo in their classrooms because of a law allowing Texas public university students to bring guns to class.
Jonathan Snow, president of the faculty senate at the university, told University of Houston regents that staff concerns about the law are growing, the Houston Chronicle reported ( http://bit.ly/1KMs1Wz ) Wednesday.
"Academics know the intrusion of gun culture into campus inevitably harms academic culture," Snow told the Board of Regents.
A faculty senate slideshow shown at a recent meeting featured a message that said instructors "may want to be careful discussing sensitive topics" or may choose to drop "certain topics" from their curriculum.

Don't professors usually need evidence to back up their theories? What evidence do they have that this occurs ANYWHERE?

I thought “debate” was no longer allowed in our “colleges” and “universities”.

Since you need to be 21 to get CCW, only some seniors, grad students, and staff would be able to carry.

Oddly dissonant. I didn’t know debate was still tolerated in academia.

As opposed to other things that chill debate like agree with me to get an “A” or ridicule of conservative students or safe rooms for libtards who get offended at anything non PC. Ya I’d put guns right up there.
To: Red in Blue PA
But shouting down students or silencing debate via Marxist clichés doesn’t stifle debate. Oooooookay.

Firearms are there already and have been for years longer than those professors. If they imagine otherwise, they’re not in touch with the real world (and should be removed to another type of mental institution for treatment).

Can’t you just hear the snark in the voice of this “academic”? Makes me want to reach through my screen and slap him.
And then slap him again.
Honestly Matt I have just about had it with these people.

Some faculty members at the University of Houston...
When I was a kid, the part of town in which the UH campus is located was a "lively" area (i.e. Beirut circa 1980 was a safer place).

I can imagine the academics are worried. Some of them have been playing God and berating their students irresponsibly and now there is a chance they will be called on the carpet for their indiscretions. Yea, if I were an asshole I'd be worried. Liberals are handwringing bedwetters and this is their MO.

"Academics know the intrusion of gun culture into campus inevitably harms academic culture," Snow told the Board of Regents. Now it is gun CULTURE that is the killer.
Man, these people are barking-at-the-moon insane.
