This article is written to offer you some information based on my many years of personal experience representing people charged with gun related crimes. You are not likely to get this information in most firearms classes. If after reading it you become extremely conservative about pulling out your firearm, I have accomplished my purpose. As I often say at the countless legal seminars, I have presented at, "Donât be an idiot with a gun." I urge you to be a responsible gun owner and think carefully before you act. Your very freedom could well depend on it.

Useful info? You be the judge. LONG piece but informative. Of course actions and conditions can never be known beforehand. Be wise if you're placed in a position where using your firearm is a possibility. I especially concur with point 1. Don't be a blabbermouth.

Well, if this is what it seems to promise to be, something of the kind ought to be passed out at arms dealers and other places where novices to shooting would be likely to go.
With any freedom that has associated dangers goes the responsibility to be wise. It isn’t a license to go on a blind yeehaw, even if some folks talk that way. Some wisdom can be had from reading, some other wisdom might be gained in a different manner. Try not to let that be the school of hard knocks if at all avoidable because with guns those knocks can be exceeding hard.

I’m sure there are a few points that some folks never considered within the article. Never hurts to increase our knowledge base.

"After 911 has been called, you should immediately prepare for the arrival of the police. At this point,
your immediate plan should be not to get shot by the police."That's good advice right there. Yessuh.

With changing mores this has become a larger problem than in the past. There’s no sense in railing at it there. If lead talks for you, it talks for everybody.

If anything is said after a self-defense shooting it had better be , ‘’I was afraid he was going to kill me. I believed I was going to die...’’ Nothing else.

Good point... a cat probably won’t be in danger, but yes to keep the dog (after yourself) from getting shot is also helpful. This is what happens when we have a society of worry wart, low-chivalry police. Putting up with it is part and parcel of the danger in the freedom. If lead talks for you it talks for everybody, but unfortunately dogs can’t shoot.

Yup. My mother had an associate of hers that was involved in a self defense shooting but clearly stated to the cops that he was NOT scared for his life and knew what he was doing. I think he ended up doing 5-15 or something. Even if you’re right, you can be wrong. As far as anything you say can be used against you in a court of law-——you better believe it will be used against you. Disarm, sit down and shut up.

"Don't forget about the dog."
Those stories are heartbreaking - but as much as I've loved my dogs, I'm not risking death for them, (nor 15 years in jail, sorry Lassie.)

“Don’t forget about the dog.”
I’m not going to risk any human life for that of a dog (well, not quite true, if both my dog and either Obama, Hillary, Bernie, Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi were drowning, I’m saving the dog)...
...but after you call 911 you have a couple of minutes to get your dog caged, or locked in the basement, laundry room or in the back yard. That’ll save the dog, and put the LEOs at ease (better for everyone).

This would be why “I believed I was in serious danger of death” would cover it if you wanted to be honest before God and still not go into the emotive mode that society so often assumes.
