Requesting assistance from my fellow FReepers. The situation with Apple raised the following thought in my aging mind: Apple is failing to abide by a judicial order to hack into the phone of the San Bernardino jihadist.
However, most liberals were gleeful when the owners of the bakery in Oregon were slapped with a $135,000 fine for not baking a wedding cake for a lesbian couple. In essence, this private business was failing to abide by "The Law of the Land."
Full disclosure: as an owner of an Iphone 6+, I applaud Apple's stance, because you don't know who the government may go after next. I think there's a compromise in here somewhere, though. The bakery's owners should have been left alone, too.
I believe this is covered under Atlas Shrugged, Part 2, Chapter 2: The Aristocracy of Pull.
Atlas Shrugged is now nonfiction. Thanks for any help you can provide!
Both cases show extreme indifference to the sufferings of others!
BTW, the title of the thread came from a scene in “High Plains Drifter.” The barber was trying to get Clint Eastwood’s character to purchase more expensive after shave IIRC.
Since the guy is dead that might prove to be a work around.
Liberals believe in the Law of Ideology. Only when Law supports their ideology is it to be followed.
High Plains Drifter was awesome. Just watched it.
iirc apple already hacked into the phone. the government is demanding that apple create a backdoor for them into every iphone, so they can surreptitiously monitor your calls, and push ti out int eh next upgrade
both show the government making private citizens do something they did not want to do under authority of the law. Apple is being forced to write code to break their incryption, if i were them, i’d have the code show that obama was the one directing the couple to do what they did. should be easy enough...
i will not comply.
They do not currently have the technology to 3retrieve the data. This is the equivalent of the government telling Boeing to invent an invisible plane.
And if they have the right to force a company to do this, they make slaves of its employees.
This is patently immoral on so.many levels.
Why are we wasting money on the NSA monitoring every call? The terrorists had more than one phone. Let the NSA access the calls and decrypt them. Isn’t that what they’re getting paid for?
If the NSA can’t do that, Congress needs to take an axe to their budget.
Going after Apple when the government supposedly has the ability to look at any phone call they want is a red flag. Congress needs to investigate.
For Apple to deliver software to the government that would allow them to hack their devices and defeat their security systems would betray their entire customer base and render all of the faith in their security systems useless. And faith is a big deal when you are talking about technological intrusions. It's really all you got.
Imagine you go and build a concrete and steel bunker that is impenetrable for your family to live in. Then the government tells you that you must provide a key to authorities in case they ever need to get in. Now take it a step further. Your neighbors and the market demands your product because it is safe, secure and stylish. You make good money on it and invest more in your new business. Then the government comes and says your product is too secure. We need you to provide us with keys for all the products you've sold just in case we ever need to breech those structures (including yours). Apple should stand pat. Any fines or legal defense they may mount and spend on will likely be cheaper than the damage done to the Apple brand. Government's next play will be to announce this is a national security issue because "radical islamist terrorists" are using apple products and they need to be able to spy on them.
You must know by now libtards know which laws/ideas are good and need to be enforced and which laws/ideas are bad and should be ignored. It is all based on an ever changing matrix of fairness, power, control and money which allows them to feel good about themselves while harming others.
No. This falls under intellectual property law and has nothing to do with refusing to offer service to someone based on what hole they prefer to be diddled in.
Agree. If the true goal was merely to obtain the data on this guy’s iPhone, the FBI would be asking Apple to decrypt and deliver that data (putting aside the concern of whether or not this is technically possible).
But the FBI isn’t just asking for the data. They want a magic key into all iPhones.
Apple is an extreme left wing company, always has been.
They do all kinds of things they, as liberal, demand no one else do. Typical liberals.
If the Justus department demanded Apple hack Bush’s phone it would have been done yesterday.
Not true! Apple is like the 2A, trying to protect us all from an all too intrusive government. Bless them!
Yeah, unless your relative was slaughtered in San Bernadino.
Thanks Liberty, for posting the pic! Y’all are making my work day go faster, and more enjoyable.
