Bush Lied About WMDs? Trump's Outrageous Accusation - ludicrous left-wing canard.
The American Spectator ^ | February 15, 2016 | Paul Kengor

[Huge SNIP]

Thus, by 2003, President George W. Bush had correctly calculated that Saddam's WMD arsenal, after at least five years of no inspections, was an intolerable, unacceptable risk in the wake of 9/11.

This was a fully legitimate fear, with Bush's suspicion of Saddam's stockpiles first informed not by his advisers but, instead, by the media that informed all of us in the 1990s, years before Bush became president.

In short, all of that very recent history was forgotten by an emotional, angry, childish political left after our troops didn't find the WMD stockpiles we all expected.

Of course, we did discover some WMDs in Iraq after 2003 (everyone forgets this), and chief inspector David Kay found both Iraqi infrastructure and intent to ramp up WMD production once Saddam later figured he was in the clear. We did not, however, find the WMD stockpiles we expected.

That said, the argument that George W. Bush deliberately lied about WMDs is not only extraordinarily unfair but stunningly misinformed and nonsensical.

Sure, Donald Trump can generally argue that going into Iraq was ill-advised, and that "we destabilized" the larger Middle East region. "George Bush made a mistake," said Trump in the South Carolina debate. "We should have never been in Iraq."

That's a legitimate point of contention. Fair enough - though Trump better not exclude Obama's prematurely pulling troops from Iraq from that equation. That, more than anything else, enabled the rise of ISIS.

But Trump charging that Bush lied on WMDs is outrageous. He should clarify it, apologize for it, or admit that he did not speak as precisely as he should have.

He should’ve said the first ones to leave would be the first in line to come back.

I really wish he’d do that, but politicians typically don’t listen to me.

And you know where from who Trump got this incredible revelation?

Michael Moore and Alan Grayson, that should concern you more than anything.

You can tell alot about a person’s beliefs when you know where they source their ‘facts’.

While I think a great case can be made that the Iraq war was the wrong thing to do, this “Lied about WMD” canard is hard to justify or rationalize. I can discount a whole lot of Trumpisms, but this one I can’t. I may simply have to ignore it when the time comes, but man, I wish he would work harder to woo voters like me over.

Bush didn’t lie but the intel he got from people he trusted was bogus.

I cry for Mr. Bush ... but did you not just say that Mr. Bush was much worse than a liar -- he was an incompetent?

Saddam Hussein had invaded and was occupying Kuwait. Bush
did not want to make the same mistake that Chamberlain
had made before WWII with Hitler. - There were also WMD’s
transported to Syria.

Age doesn’t matter.
Either they existed or they didn’t.

What is the oldest thing you own?
Does it exist or not?
Patently ridiculous to say it doesn’t exist “because it is old!”

So now the existence of actual chemical weapons doesn’t matter?
The sarin ied doesn’t matter?
Try to window lick it away all you want, they existed.

*cough cough*
Uh, wv?
The existence of munitions, no matter the age, is proof of WMD.
Please be honest about that.
Using the pretzel logic the left employed while lying about what we found is not only wrong, it demeans every soldier who was there.

Did Bush willfully lie? Probably not, but did his administration trump up and prop up evidence that was less than reliable to get the public behind the war in Iraq? Absolutely. Trying to argue the subtleties of this when Trillions have been burned the nation in question is on the verge of collapse and thousands have been left fatherless? A stupid and worthless argument.

Not if those weapons were weapons we knew he had, and helped provide him as part of the Iraq/Iran war. The argument for war was he was amassing WMD’s not that he had a few thousand that we helped give him decades earlier.

I know this is heresy to some here, but if you look in retrospect at what has happened with Iraq and think that it was worth it, I highly question your judgement.

There is a huge difference between, it was the right decision at the time, and turned out to be wrong.. and it was the right decision at the time and even in retrospect we should have done it. The public is overwhelmingly in the prior camp... only the NEOCON’s and GOPe kool aid drinkers and a few others are in the latter.

Like it or not, Trump is taking the right approach.

Bush did irreparable damage to the Republican Brand, and if the GOP is going to become viable again, they have to distance themselves from the Bush Legacy as much as possible.

Sorry, facts show that the weapons existed.
Why the president allowed the press to lie about what we found, and the left shrieking there weren’t any, I done know and it isn’t relevant.
Facts are, they existed.
Stating otherwise is immoral, idiotic, dishonest, and serves no purpose but to advance the narrative of the left.

Of course, thanks to Geraldo “let me tell the enemy where we are” Rivera, if the press did get a bout of honesty over it I’m sure they would have printed out maps or drawn in the sand during live reports to show the Al-Qeada faithful where to get the weapons.

The few times the press did admit the darn things existed, the reports were buried.

I never said they didn’t exist. I said if you argue we need to go to war because Saddam is making WMD’s and then when you destroy the country the only ones you find are ones you gave him decades earlier, your argument to go to war was not proven.

If you can’t understand such 3rd grade sentence structure and language, there’s really not much more I can do to explain it to you.
