yes the 16th needs to be repealed.

A national sales tax would capture the 10% of the economy that is underground. IT would also tax illegals.

Consumption should be taxed, not production. Incentives are completely backwards. We dont need TVs iphones expensive cars, golf courses etc until we fix manufacturing and build up our intellectual capital and knowledge base back up.

>>Linder Fair Tax<<

It sounded like the fair tax, only he said 16%. I haven’t looked at the Cruz site for his details.

I found this at Tax Foundation.org...

Cruz:

Establishes a flat rate of 10% on all ordinary income. Increases the standard deduction to $10,000 per filer.

Lowers the rate on capital gains and dividends income to 10%.

Replaces the corporate income tax with a 16% business transfer tax, which applies to all capital income and labor payments.

Eliminates the estate tax.

My son, who is currently in Special Forces, arrived in Saudi Arabia 7 days after the August 1990 invasion of Kuwait. In Jan. 2003 when it was clear Bush would be attacking in Iraq and Gen. Shinsecki(sp?) was catching heck because he wanted around 350,000 troops and Bush/Rumsfeld were going with 170,000, I called him and asked how many he thought we should be sending. He said based on his experience in Iraq that it should be around 450,000. After a year, Bush’s hand picked Iraq manager said we should have had 500,000. [So now I am urging my son to run for President. ;-)]

The opinion of many was that the war was fought because “He tried to kill my Daddy.”—Bush. And to make lots of money for VP Cheney who, if I recall correctly, had about $23 million in Halliburton stock. At any rate, Bush had to go when he did if he was going to go at all. A spring assault was needed before the punishing heat of summer. Baghdad temperatures of 114 f, and fighting in heavy chemical warfare gear??? If he waited until after that he would only have been able to fight in the last year of his administration. Any obvious “mistake” like loosing, would have heavily affected the next Presidential election. It is only now, with the historical perspective of time, that the bad results of jumping into this war without finishing the one in Afghanistan become clear. Subsequently, my son went to Afghanistan in 2006 and 2013. I have one question for the Bushes father and son. What happened to the CIA maps of Bora Bora when we apparently had Bin Laden trapped there? Were they deliberately lost so that Bin Laden would escape and Bush/Cheney would have an excuse to continue the two wars, running up our debt and killing our brave young soldiers.

No. He was too easily manipulated while in Senate to make bad votes. If he did it then, he’ll do it again.

I know. The debate was like a Jerry Springer show. The Cruz FReepers are like a Jerry Springer class-less audience.

I’ve worked for men like Trump before. Best bosses I’ve ever had. Most honest.

We should not be talking about a national sales tax (NST) until the 16A is repealed for the reasons given. Since repealing the 16A is next to impossible, we should basically forget about an NST.

And BTW, many do not distinguish between a national sales tax at the point of consumer purchase and a VAT, but their is a huge difference as explained in the earlier post. Don’t fall for the verbage of “consumption tax”. We should all know by now the lengths to which these scoundrels and thieves will go. “Consumption” can legitimately be construed to mean the use of raw materials to make the next stage in production or supply chain. Just stick with the simple “sale tax” conceptually and then forget about it because the 16A is intact.

Well, since that is an act of war, it begs the question; "Why didn't the rapist/child molester go after him?"

“American people really don’t like bullies.”

Then they’ll really hate Bush. And the American people usually side with the one being bullied which, in this case, was Trump. They pig-piled on him and bullies are not attractive.

“Cruz and Bush attacked Trump tonight “

It was pretty obvious those two had planned ahead of time to work together on the attacks. Too choreographed.

An interesting take on Bush mistakes over 911 and subsequently is Richard Clarke’s book Against All Enemies. Apparently his warnings to the new Bush administration were pushed aside immediately prior to 911.

None of these guys are perfect, but I think Trump is teachable and can learn from this.

People have to distinguish between the Constitutionally allowed income tax because of the 16th Amendment, a national sales tax, and the VAT.

First of all, until you repeal the 16th Amendment, nobody should be talking about ADDING an entirely new federal tax, a national sales tax. People who think all you have to do is have legislation that disallows income tax in favor of the sales tax. But of course that is a silly idea since the 16th Amendment of Constitution authorizes the feds at any time to implement an income tax. People need to remember that the Constitution trumps legislation (Art VI, Cl 2 - the Supremacy Clause). Unless you love taxes, adding a national sales tax before repealing the 16th Amendment would be foolhardy.

Secondly, if you by some miracle actually repeal the 16th Amendment, I agree that a sales tax - a tax upon purchase at the cash register - would be preferable for a variety of reasons, some of which you mention.

Thirdly, the VAT MUST be distinguished from an actual sales tax at the cash register for purchases. NOT a “consumption tax” or value-added tax (VAT). That would be a disaster allowing the feds to tax each stage along the production and supply process and allowing more intrusion and interference the inner workings of business that would also allow more hidden taxes than ever. VAT is a disaster.

These different total tax rearrangements are all very interesting but totally unlikely to ever be passed. I have two much smaller items that I would like to see proposed as laws. 1) Allow every taxpayer a $10,000 deduction for bank and stock Interest (would encourage saving and investing in more stable companies and be good for retirement income). 2) Currently a deduction is allowed for being blind. I would expand that to anyone who is medically certified as being as disabled as a blind person (in the last few years of caring for my husband with Alzheimers, he was definitely more handicapped than a blind person. I could have used the money saved on such a Deduction to occasionally hire someone to stay with him while I went shopping or just got outside by myself for a while.). 3) Increase the “one time death benefit” of $255 established in 1957(?) to the current inflation calculated figure which is a little over $2,000. This would be just enough to cover a bare bones cremation or a burial in a small community. The amounts in all three ideas should be adjusted to inflation each year.

Well, I guess Clinton didn’t try to go after him because he didn’t try to kill Clinton’s daddy.
