“One wonders what executive order he could sign that would stop this.”

Take away much of the power of the EPA.

Much of this move was anticipated because Carrier, Trane and others who deal with refrigerants pay a hefty penalty to the EPA, not only in the transportation of the R refrigerants (on rail car) into and out of their facility, but also in the manufacture of the compressing units is my understanding.

It is just too costly to deal with the EPA here in the United States, and the liability is too high. Investors (banks) want nothing to do with anyone with such high environmental liability, especially since the government is so hostile to any company that may run afoul of the EPA or other regulations, not only those in play currently, but the regulations can change monthly, crippling a company in an instant, and there is nothing that the state or congress can do about it, since the EPA has no congressional oversight.

No, I was not in that 20 miles. I am talking of the traffic way back in Nashville on the Interstates after Bush agreed that Mexicans could drive their damn trucks here. Do you recall that. It was like overnight the traffic was unreal. Now we have 12 plus more million illegals driving.

I think we should keep our carriers here. Our Navy needs them! :-)

I’m just trying to determine what you think you saw. Mexican trucks weren’t allowed into the interior of the U.S. until 2010, or 2011, if I recall.

UTC made $1.1B in profit last year. I think they weren't having a problem with "too costly".

Bringing the cheap labor here, moving the work there, what is the difference.

What's the difference? Is your name Jeb?

Why do you keep trying to equate fast food with manufacturing?

I gave a simple example, because you seem like a simple guy.

Is that the best you have or can come up with?

I can give you another one, it might be too complex for you.

If you make $30 an hour and you buy a US manufactured good made by a $10 an hour worker, who should get the 200% tax we need to add to your purchase? The US Treasury or the Indiana Treasury?

"One thing you could do is harass the hell out of their shipments as they come through customs."

That's minor compared to the things the Exec could do.

Implemented a REGULATION that every unit must be tested and tagged with a safety certification. That testing and tagging must be paid for by the business that wants to move the goods.

Stop ALL commerce at the border for 3 months, every 3 months due to the terrorist threat.

Call out the US Congress every day. Every day. Expose their corruption and willingness to sell American jobs.

Audit the companies, every one of them moving product across the border, every year. Nit pic the hell out of them. Audit their banks moving the money, again, every year.

Soon Congress would be aboard.

They are a lefty group.

It would be nice if right wing groups would show more of an interest corporate welfare beyond Obama’s buddies, so that you don’t have to go to these type of sites to see what is going on.

The government protected its merchants and kept others out through trade barriers, regulations, and subsidies to domestic industries in order to maximize exports from and minimize imports to the realm.

So British taxes on US tea consumption are bad, but US taxes on US tea consumption are good?

But for the record I do believe anyone who works full time should make a living.

You're willing to raise taxes on US consumers, because some low skilled guy in China works cheaply, but you don't want to pay more at McDonalds, even though they work more cheaply than you?

Doesn't seem very consistent.

"We pay the highest corporate income tax rate in the world, it should be mystifying why people think taxes should be higher in order to keep these companies from leaving."

What's truly mystifying is that there are those who believe only America should exercise Adam Smith's version of Free Trade and Commerce when the entire rest of the world are mercantilists seeking and gaining advantage.

Tariffs are not a pure tax. They add cost ONLY to imported goods.

Yes, we should completely eliminate all corporate taxes and move those costs to the border.

One could even make it revenue neutral and still do the nation a great service.

I don't think you are capable of understanding trade and history. Try reading and opening your mind up.

The colonies could not protect fledgling industries by putting tariffs on British imports. As soon as the war was won and the Constitution adopted the first thing the first congress did was pass the tariff act which promoted/protested US industry, paid for the war and made the USA a major player in the industrial revolution of the 19th century instead of being left out if it.

They add cost ONLY to imported goods.

Then how do they protect well-paying American jobs? Do they do so with no cost?

UTX, more like $7.5 billion.

"We want protection from gloBULLism just like President Washington provided as the first President of the USA. "

A sentiment shared by the US Congress for at least the first dozen Presidents.

It's arguable that it was through tariff that the enormous US Capital Stock was originally built. That and innovation.

Tariffs promote domestic manufacturing and generate tax receipts. They could be used to lower income tax burden too.
