One wonders what executive order he could sign that would stop this. Or, what threat could he make? Or, what kind of government payment would he make? Are there other options?

The GOP has squandered decades in this area. There are TONS of things we can do and should have been doing for years. Lowering taxes, gutting regulations, not allowing entire classes of citizens to be able to exist only with gov't jobs. Shutting down presidential lawlessness and stupidity, with removal from office if needed. Putting a generation of Clintons in prison. But that would take years of hard work and that work was neglected. We refused to upset the apple cart.

Now here we are, wishing with Trump fairy dust.

Germany has LOWER corporate tax than USA..

Most IMPORTANT — German manufacturing corporations are rife with Engineers in top positions, instead of accountants like in USA. You will lots of CEO’s and executives with doctorate in engineering in Germany. They take a longer term outlook instead of bottom line for the next quarter.

Correct. For many years the facility in Indpls was Bryant/Carrier.
United Technologies bought them in 79.

One thing you could do is harass the hell out of their shipments as they come through customs. That falls under the executive branch. If everything is not perfect send it back to Mexico.

Some of you folks don’t have a very good imagination.

Sadly, I am aware of it. We pay the highest corporate income tax rate in the world, it should be mystifying why people think taxes should be higher in order to keep these companies from leaving.

“The RINO party is run by globalists wanting open borders and 3rd world America.”

You are correct and let’s not forget so many of them are here too. Free trade is bs. There should be limits on trade volume with any nation directly tied to how much they open their markets to us. Tariffs should be levied against any countries to adjust for wages paid there, government subsidies for said products and environmental rules. I don’t care what kind of crap so called conservatives will say about this and look forward to the day this happens.

Tariffs? If it cost you more to import than to build it here.

The taxes were crushing and the prices were too. 80 million people in an area the size of Oregon.

There is no positive example in any European country to me.

And that is one reason as a former manufacturer that I can’t stand VAT taxation. Hell, even in Canada.

There are enough behind-the-scenes intimidations, whether through promises of unending labor Department audits, regulatory checks, etc., this could be stopped in a heartbeat. And you don’t have to say, “Stay in NY.” You just say, “You have to stay in the US.”

And it can all be done without actually having to pull the trigger, because the corporate guys know the cost of being on the wrong side of this stuff. And it can be done without significantly affecting the bottom line.

Did you listen closely when he told them they had to maintain quality until the move so the company didn’t suffer in the marketplace? It appears that some of the workers aren’t team players as to that. No thinking person is going to want to buy a Carrier AC unit for at least 5 years.

I didn’t know there was anyone working for Carrier in Syracuse any longer....IIRC those jobs went to Memphis in the early 2000’s.

President Trump to President Hayes:
http://www.utc.com/Our-Company/Leadership-Team/Pages/Gregory-J-Hayes.aspx

“Hello Greg, this is Donald Trump. I see you’re moving 2,000 American jobs to Mexico, which I don’t like but which is your perogative, of course.

But as CEO of a large and important public company, I just thought you might appreciate a heads-up to know that I’ll be discussing this sad decision of yours in a nationally-televised speech from the Oval Office tomorrow night. Since I’m sure many of your big shareholders and the stock analysts who can have a big impact on your stock price will be watching, and I just didn’t want my remarks to come as a total surprise to you.

What? No, there is no negotiation on this point. But there is still time for you to review your decision and should it change and these jobs stay in Indiana, there is also still time for my speechwriters to make a few changes.

You have a great day, now!”

Just out of curiosity, do you only do business with people who make as much money as you do? I don’t.

I hope Donald makes an accusation of why did Carrier decide it was better to go to Mexico, profits to shareholders or is it something else....what if a percentage of these units were found to have cocaine in the sealed freon system, sealed so dogs or the best detection gear cannot detect the drugs.

I don't know, by Executive Order impose a Tariff on Mexico

That would be raciest. Lets impose a Tariff on all imports and use that money for tax breaks to bring money back into the country.

In a radio interview on South Carolina's Vince Coakley Radio Program, Heidi Cruz argued free trade is a powerfully good force and that presidents should have increased powers to negotiate trade deals--a policy that has become particularly controversial over the last year as President Obama has pushed for what's called trade-promotion authority (TPA) to negotiate a U.S.-Asian Pacific trade agreement.
