PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Federal lawmakers on Friday implored the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to respond to growing alarm over what they said were dangerous amounts of toxic pollution in Portland's air.

As state regulators remained silent about plans to address the city's cancer-causing air pollution, Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and Rep. Earl Blumenauer asked for the EPA to intervene, calling the situation a public health emergency.

The three Oregon Democrats escalated the already high-profile chorus of political leaders suddenly prodding environmental officials to take decisive action

Little too much “smug” in Liberalville?

Why can’t they clean up their own backyard?

Hrmm... Portland has a left-wing governor and a left-wing mayor. Can’t THEY regulate the industry enough to clean things up? Or maybe, just maybe, the dear leaders from Oregon REALLY want the E.P.A. to issue rulings that will affect Houston, Charlotte, Wichita, Phoenix, Miami, Columbus, etc.?

“Wyden, Merkley and Blumenauer called for swift action to regulate stained glass manufacturers across the country that burn heavy metals.”

Yup. They don’t want their regulation to give other states’ industries a competitive advantage; they’ll end up killing off everyone’s stained-glass manufacturers, so yet another industry will just move to China.

This is so frustrating. I am pissed over the whole Flint Michigan thing....the democrats ruined the city so they had to cut funding so the Governor appointed someone to clean up the mess and cut some areas....well they decided to get the water from another source but STILL THE DEMS screwed up the city to begin with. Same with Ferguson a completely Democratic city but they are saying Republicans are the problem due to white leaving the city.......well crap maybe if the thugs wouldn’t be so violent, white would stay. It is frustrating that EVERYTHING is turned towards the Republicans as the problem and for some reason they get away with it.

I hope that filthy homosexual labor judge gets a good strong wiff of that Portland air.

“”Portland? Bad air? Huh?””

That’s certainly my first reaction also. How can the air be dirty in a place where the amount of rain they get should keep it clean? Traveled to Corvalis from CA many years ago to visit friends and went to Portland with them. I remember bad, stinky air from paper mills on the way - is that what is causing the pollution? But I don’t recall Portland itself having bad air when we got there...strange!

“”they are saying Republicans are the problem due to whites leaving the city””

Really? Boy! If that’s not an upside down attitude! We ought to know that we’ll be blamed eventually for any problem that comes down the pike.

The piles of human feces on the sidewalks of Portland are a far greater risk to public health than the air quality.

Leftist alarmists. I’m not going to quote the whole article, but it’s so full of unspecified leftist goals for air quality, conspiracy, and blame on leftist stained glass manufacturing of product that is so minimal in quantity in today’s depressed economy it’s ridiculous.

The State didn’t jump quickly enough onto the correct Leftist perspective in the opinion of the Federal wild imagination service, so they just had to scream for help from their Federal brothers, and sisters in the EPA to come down on the irresponsible State Environmental Department.

I have a 70 year old brother has lived, and owned a business in the Portland area for most of his adult life. He says he doesn’t see a serious problem up there other than too many stupid friggin’ liberals.
