Hand gesture??
The Bird? Probably not, but consider this...
Student expects to get The Bird, happens a lot. When he gets a friendly, or loving gesture, his conscience kicks in and he feels guilt.
That Guilt, caused by the love of the preacher is the offense.
My theory.
ASSUMING this was an actual gospel presentation and not being an ass-holiness case... which all too many nit-witnesses are (note: the pharisees got the hellfire treatment, the adulteresses didn’t)...
THEN, don’t worry. God is on the case. IF THIS IS REAL and again I mean, not an ass-holiness case... a miracle may ensue, and I mean one like the falling down of the prison walls in the book of Acts.
BUT... if it is an ass-holiness case, I do not expect much in the way of vindication to happen.
They SAID the citation was dismissed, but he really needs to get documentation. Otherwise, the cops will show up about 3 am, shoot his dog if he has one available, and then drag him off in chains.

The officer then ‘kinda’ backs off and charged him with
“someone was offended”
Maybe you aren’t even the best post to reply to here, and if so I am sorry for picking on you. You didn’t say anything particularly objectionable I see.
But we really don’t yet have a situation anything like the pagan societies in which Paul was upsetting applecarts in.
Communist USSR might be the closest thing to it, followed by official Chinese and North Korean policies. Those actually had Big Authorities that Christ was a direct affront to. And “God loves you” was met with the most extreme and insane jealousy of opposition.
Just my $0.02. We so often lack perspective about what’s really good and what’s really evil, getting all gaga and all offended over watered down versions of both.

he may have been speaking along the lines of
“not being an ***-holiness case” because
“The preacher asked how it was against the law to use biological terms?”

We’re still WAY too Christianized for that.
The real problems with Christ happen when a society has gotten frankly idolatrous. NOW you are challenging a god that means something to them. Challenging gods that don’t mean much won’t offend anybody, really.

Misplaced preaching really does look like an “I AM GOD” proclamation. It’s a tricky thing for the average, still-proud sinner to point the glory elsewhere.

Yup, the most gospel-true approach we can POSSIBLY take.
Too many “Christians” are like you. They lurk, and take potshots from their dark shadows. They don’t say God promised this and God promised that (yes it sounds almost like a political campaign when it is done correctly).
Here’s a tip:

Something’s wrong here. 35 posts and no partisan tying this to Trump or Cruz.
It is to weep over, literally. The term “Good Grief” could have well been invented for such situations.

If you DO find someone who is saying look at Jesus, and means it, you are going to see such grace that one wonders more how one could refuse such a presentation, than how one could accept it.

Ah, there is a “Christian” world and it does not know gospel from goose feathers. It just wants to manipulate men and get them dancing around themselves, not rushing to Christ. I hate that, hate that with a passion that burns white hot.
