Ezra Klein IMPLOSION: "The rise of Donald Trump is a terrifying moment in American politics"
Vox ^

Posted on 02/10/2016 11:20:10 PM PST by bryan999

"This, more than his ideology, is why Trump genuinely scares me. There are places where I think his instincts are an improvement on the Republican field. He seems more dovish than neoconservatives like Marco Rubio, and less dismissive of the social safety net than libertarians like Rand Paul. But those candidates are checked by institutions and incentives that hold no sway over Trump; his temperament is so immature, his narcissism so clear, his political base so unique, his reactions so strange, that I honestly have no idea what he would do - or what he wouldn't do."

“...he’s a racist, a sexist, and a demagogue”

Other than Bob Dole, which Republican candidate has NOT been called that by the media and most Democrats.

Has a suck to be a leftist and use up your all verbal ammunition trying to defeat really decent people, like Reagan, Bush-41, and Bush-43. RINGS HOLLOW NOW. We expect Cruz, Rubio, even Jeb to be called the same, should any of them get the nomination.

Terms like the above were meant to be used with DISCRETION - once they’re used to describe ones opponents, over and over again, when not true - they have no effectiveness even if they are true.

So yea, considering that we Trump supporters have been called the same, FOR DECADES, even though we freed our slaves and closed down our harems over 10 years ago, these kinds of attacks on us just won’t work...not this time.

Between Bill Clinton and Obama, EVERY TRAIT that Trump supposedly has already has existed in the White House, and worse (i.e., rapes, body counts, etc.).

You write those words because you’ve disregard Trump’s habit of betraying, abandoning, and not keeping faith with promises and positions. He’s elaborated enough on his betrayals in his books. His lies he calls hyperbole. His own life as a serial adulterer is proof that he doesn’t keep his word to those whom he says he loves, assuming he meant to be faithful to his wives in the first place and believed in monogamy. He is, after all, a spoiled little rich kid who sees himself above plebeian and bourgeois rules. His funding of and praise of liberals and liberalism only too recently is proof that he’s either abandoned the liberals (including Hillary and Obama), or he has betrayed them at least for the time being. His stated contempt for Republicans when he was a Democrat and now that he’s Republican is the only consistent philosophical position he has. Trump is a shameless liar, like his pals Hillary and Bill. It is too bad that his character is overlooked by those who so yearn for a leader that they’ll buy what Trump is selling.

“His lack of knowledge and lack of any discernable plan?”

I understand your concerns and your comments, and I don't yet have a definitive dog in this race. That said, I don't think any of the candidates, or most politicians in general, have a legitimate workable ‘plan’ for anything other than how to get elected and re-elected. In general, politicians are not ‘experts’ at anything, and it would be better for the country if the whole concept of ‘career politician’ did not exist.

Trump's biggest contribution to date has been to laugh in the face of the political establishment and diminish their stature. That's why so many hate him. This was necessary, whether it be from him or someone else. Over decades we've allowed politicians and those connected to them in some manner to be elevated to a special and elite class in society. Politicians, and those who report on and cavort with them are now celebrities. This paradigm is unacceptable, damaging, and has needed to be shifted. That is very hard to accomplish from within, even for those whose heads have not been turned by being invited into the ranks of the elites.

Regardless of the merits, anything whatsoever that makes Ezra Klein wet his pants is at least deserving of some respect...

I love Cruz, but I also love what Trump is doing to the establishment bad guys...
The best question for those who are losing their minds at the thought of Trump winning: After 8 years of the MORON currently occupying the White House, do you REALLY think Trump could do a worse job?

One thing I am certain Trump WILL do:

Abide by the Constitution.

I think he respects it. A thousand times more than Obama does.

And if he gets out of line ... He has PLENTY of us to remind him.
_____________________________________________________________

You THINK he respects it?????????????????

Seriously?

what makes you think that his history as a crony capitalist?

His donations to the Clinton Foundation?

His thinking his Sister who has written opinions supporting Partial Birth Abortions would be a “Great Supreme Court Justice”?

You think when in office a malignant narcissist like Trump would care what a bunch of losers think? (everyone who doesn’t agre with him is a loser in his world.

Name anything in his record that shows a respect for the Constitution. Hell he thinks being a conservative has to do with conserving money.

"...his temperament is so immature, his narcissism so clear, his political base so unique, his reactions so strange, that I honestly have no idea what he would do - or what he wouldn't do."

...supposedly the author wrote this about Mr. Trump. But is the author perhaps recycling a column he wrote in 2007/8?

Yes - that is such a perfect, concise description of Barack Obama that it is hard to believe the author didn't realize how much he was leaving himself open to public ridicule in applying it to Trump.
