If conservatism is your bag, if conservatism is the dominating factor in how you vote, there is no other choice for you in this campaign than Ted Cruz, because you are exactly right: This is the closest in our lifetimes we have ever been to Ronald Reagan.

Make your own decision, based on more than checklists that these radio entertainment guys provide for you. Who is most likely to defeat Hillary? Who has the best overall platform?

This election period is just exposing true conservatives vs moderates...Levin and Rush have not changed positions over the years. Rush Limbuagh's series of books speak for who he really is... AND they speak for what MOST conservatives feel. our FOUNDING FATHERS purpose.

Because, when there is some reasonable question as to a proper course for man as he organizes himself on earth...I tend to lean toward the Founders.
And it appears their alignment with modern Conservative Orthodoxy is tenuous, at best.
Because, ultimately, they were Nationalists first.
For me, conservatism includes patriotism. While a liberal may be patriotic, a conservative must be patriotic. This means putting the national interests ahead of foreign interests. It means, among others, no amnesty, no Syrians, no assistance for illegal aliens.
Seven times.
Government grew under Reagan. It will grow under Cruz. It will grow under Trump. POTUSes come and go. Congress lives forever.
I would ask that you look at the comment that I replied. If he supports Trump, fine but people shouldn’t be attacking Cruz as if somehow he’s not a conservative. Thank you for welcoming me aboard. NOPE... he was right beside Jeff Sessions voting against it. He once supported it for a while until he said he got to read it and was not allowed to put safeguards on it (ex. immigration).

That Cruz supported it at all without reading it shows both his lack of judgement and his lack of economic expertise.
Trump didn’t have to read it and knew he was against it because Obama and his cronies were involved and because past deals have been bad.
Cruz supporters wants us to ignore Cruz’s last second change of heart but then bring up Trump stances that are 20 year old or more.
You can start by telling us how supporting lots of liberals (and a few RINOs) over the past thirty years makes him a conservative? Oh, that's right - he was just buying influence, because he's a crony capitalist.
But he himself "can't be bought" - despite by his own admission engaging in questionable ethical practices like buying influence? Trump's just cut out the middleman; He's his own special interest.
Or how his contributions to Harry Reid's campaign when he was challenged by an actual conservative, Tea Party candidate Sharron Angle, who wanted to fight ObamaCare, make him a conservative? I don't know about you, but I was working for candidates like her, and writing checks to her and candidates like her, while Trump was working against us.
Or how supporting government controlled health care makes him a conservative? Seems we on FR (and presumably, most of us are conservatives - those of you who think Trump is a conservative excepted, of course) were all up in arms over that a few years ago...
Or how imposing tariffs is conservative? We used to quote Adam Smith and Jack Kemp, and believe in the sanctity of markets... Those tariffs, btw, are not just a liberal idea, but they're a dumb liberal idea, and will do nothing but raise prices for American consumers, and destroy jobs for American workers. If you want to make us more competitive, walls (economic or otherwise) are not the answer.
Or how instead of blaming the policies of the democrats for failed policies which have destroyed economic growth over the past seven plus years, he blames Juan the dishwasher over at the neighborhood greasy spoon? That is not to say that we must control our borders - clearly we must - but it is not even remotely close to the biggest problem this country faces.
Trump is no conservative. Conservatives don't spend their entire lives funding and supporting the opposition, only to make a foxhole conversion because they believe (correctly, as it turns out) that there are enough profoundly gullible people with either no intellectual basis for their purported beliefs, or with no core beliefs whatsoever, who are simply willing to support a reality TV star full of empty promises, unworkable policy pronouncements, and one very defective ideological compass.
I guess you missed the show where Rush declared in no uncertain terms that Rubio, yes, gang of 8 Rubio, is a TRUE Reagan conservative.
You can play high and might all you want, and demean anyone who was aghast at Rush’s words, but it doesn’t wash with reality.
I don’t give a care who Rush/Levin/Hannity/NRO abccbsnbc et al, say they want in office. I DO care that someone who has been around for decades and knows better, would make such an egregious claim such as Rush did regarding Rubio.
I didn’t turn on Rush - Rush turned on ME.
So carry on, play the middle and be pious that anyone who took objection to what Rush said is just sore because he didn’t endorse Trump - it is you who sounds ill informed.
Are you just trying to create friction or do you have an answer for what others have stated here?
When Rush states that gang of 8 Rubio is a true blue conservative in the same vein as Reagan, you better believe people are going to take notice and give pause.
It has NOTHING to do with him stating that Cruz is conservative and please stop attempting to attribute that to why people are turned off. Unless of course YOU believe Rubio is as conservative as Cruz.
