Cruz: Drafting women is 'nuts'
Politico ^ | 02/07/16 | Katie Glueck

Posted on 02/07/2016 2:23:04 PM PST by Isara

PETERBOROUGH, N.H.-Ted Cruz on Sunday said he opposes requiring women to register for a potential draft, breaking with Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, all of whom indicated support for opening up the Selective Service to women during Saturday night's debate.

"I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was, 'Are you guys nuts?'" Cruz said Sunday, speaking at a town hall here. "Listen, we have had enough with political correctness, especially in the military. Political correctness is dangerous. And the idea that we would draft our daughters to forcibly bring them into the military and put them in close combat, I think is wrong, it is immoral, and if I am president, we ain't doing it."

To applause, Cruz went on to note that he is a father to two daughters, and he wants them to follow their dreams.

"But the idea that their government would forcibly put them in a foxhole with a 220-pound psychopath trying to kill them doesn't make any sense at all," he said.

The previous night, at the presidential debate, Rubio said he had no problem with women in combat, and added, "I do believe Selective Service should be opened up for both men and women in the case a draft is ever instituted."

Bush made a similar argument but stressed that there is no draft and he is not calling for reinstating one.

Christie was less explicit, but more broadly indicated openness to allowing women to register for the Selective Service.

“Drafting women is “nuts” because men are physically stronger, faster, more resilient, and bolder than women. “

All significant matters, but not always universally applicable.
The most important by far though is that men are expendable.

Carson cheated himself. Cruz just took advantage of the opportunity.

Yes and no. In my opinion if we have political correctness to advantage liberals, we must be consistent when it disadvantages them. I believe making women register for the draft will instantly switch many of them from liberal to conservative. As it is they favor killing babies and sacrificing men for their own freedom but resist equality when it comes to combat. I think they should get the responsibilities of their claim that there is no difference between men and women. If it hurts to mix them, then have women only combat troops. Whatever. Just drag their feminist butts to those front lines.

It is disgusting how feminists are so hateful toward males when males have sacrificed so utterly for their freedoms.

” that they will be operationally unfit for major warfare. ‘

Warfare has a way of quickly bringing rationality back again.
The moment teenage girls start dying and getting maimed in the future version of the Somme people will find out that there are limits to the twisting of human sentiment.

I wish he had vehemently jumped in (he has two daughters) and ripped them a new one with an OVER MY DEAD BODY statement.

That's exactly what I was hoping for! Watching Jeb Bush was the worst. Everything about his mannerisms, his attitude, betrays his lack of a conservative core and his willingness to parrot and encourage whatever cultural trend is popular at the moment.

And I was very disappointed in Christie's mindless agreement on this topic and his Oprah - like pronouncement about how his daughters have been taught to "find their worth within themselves!" Gag.

All the pictures of female soldiers I see in Israel aren’t involved in areas of actual combat, but they seem assigned to more security related details.

I totally agree!

If we are all to be equal under the law, women should also be required to register for the draft. That does not mean going into battle.

However, another alternative is to end the requirement that men register with selective service. That would equalize things as well. This would be my preference.

If so, those males have no honor and are not men at all.

The Spanish Milicianas of 1936 were a big pat of the Communist propaganda of the day.
I don’t know, even commie boilersuit outfits with Mausers may be an improvement for todays college coeds.

Why should they get non combat roles? What are parents of daughters more accommodated than parents of sons? The left says there is no difference. So put up or shut up.

“The most important by far though is that men are expendable.”

I don’t believe men are “expendable”, or that they’re any more expendable than women. I do think that men are physically superior and incapable of getting pregnant, so it makes more sense to draft men than women. Any woman who is drafted and doesn’t want to serve in any capacity will get pregnant within eight weeks of boot camp.

It is nuts. Can you imagine if one of our daughters was captured. The nightmare. It’s bad enough for the men.

“but it’s part of the burden of society men must bear. It’s that simple.”

Actually it isn’t. And those that are paying attention are seeing that men are walking away from this cuckolded nonsense in numbers that will force the state to either change or die.

We don’t exist to make the world safe for women to rule over us.

Again, just type “derp.”

I have no clue what you are talking about, nor do I care.

“I have no problem with drafting women. We already have the mechanism in place to draft men.

I served in the US Navy for 20 years, and I am a woman.”

I applaud your service and totally agree.

“The left says there is no difference. So put up or shut up.”

Even if they are foolish and irresponsible doesn’t mean everyone else must also be. Letting a fool get his way can be rather spiteful. And hard on his daughter.

It needs to mean they go into battle. A life is a life. No difference means no difference. Why is a man’s life worth less than a woman’s life this day and age? Cruz has daughters and other people have sons. Should they not be of equal value?

Honestly I think it is sickening than men no longer protect women. But they don’t and so I favor consistency.

It is not spiteful. It is fair. Anything less is unfair and unequal in the eyes of the law.

Stupid, nutty idea. I have granddaughters. If they must register and if they can be drafted, logic says they should just take care of themselves in this open, idiotic society. I think that is wrong also. Cruz is right and proper to defend against this nonsense.

Each woman is one less womb, one less mother, that many fewer children. Women of child-bearing age are the ultimate limited resource, the bottleneck.
Women and kids are why Horatius held the bridge - whatever the poem says about the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods.
