Cruz: Drafting women is 'nuts'
Politico ^ | 02/07/16 | Katie Glueck

Posted on 02/07/2016 2:23:04 PM PST by Isara

PETERBOROUGH, N.H.-Ted Cruz on Sunday said he opposes requiring women to register for a potential draft, breaking with Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, all of whom indicated support for opening up the Selective Service to women during Saturday night's debate.

"I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was, 'Are you guys nuts?'" Cruz said Sunday, speaking at a town hall here. "Listen, we have had enough with political correctness, especially in the military. Political correctness is dangerous. And the idea that we would draft our daughters to forcibly bring them into the military and put them in close combat, I think is wrong, it is immoral, and if I am president, we ain't doing it."

To applause, Cruz went on to note that he is a father to two daughters, and he wants them to follow their dreams.

"But the idea that their government would forcibly put them in a foxhole with a 220-pound psychopath trying to kill them doesn't make any sense at all," he said.

The previous night, at the presidential debate, Rubio said he had no problem with women in combat, and added, "I do believe Selective Service should be opened up for both men and women in the case a draft is ever instituted."

Bush made a similar argument but stressed that there is no draft and he is not calling for reinstating one.

Christie was less explicit, but more broadly indicated openness to allowing women to register for the Selective Service.

The guy is right time and time again.

Ted reaffirmed my decision to donate to his campaign, twice. He is so solid, on just about everything.

I agree with Cruz. Unless you are a nation that is in existential crisis like Israel....drafting women for combat is insane.

What’s “nuts” about it?

That women are too good to have to serve their nation, but men get to, while women have all the rights back home to vote to send them off to war?

Cruz is LOSING a major bloc of male voters with this campy appeal. They simply will not support someone that props up the expectation of “male utility/disposability for female protection”.

That’s comforting. Cruz is right.

I agree with Cruz on this also. Does Trump have a position on this?

“I agree with Cruz. Unless you are a nation that is in existential crisis like Israel....drafting women for combat is insane.”

They can work in non-combat roles, but they should not be exempt.

I have no problem with drafting women. We already have the mechanism in place to draft men.

I served in the US Navy for 20 years, and I am a woman.

If politicians risked sending their daughters as well as their sons into harm’s way, I would hope they would make those decisions with extreme care.

Good for Cruz. I was wondering what I was watching last night in a Republican debate.

Drafting women is “nuts” because men are physically stronger, faster, more resilient, and bolder than women. In addition, men can’t get pregnant. Talk to men in the military and ask them if women in the service ever get pregnant. Most will laugh and say, “A lot of them do!”

As a former Infantryman and combat veteran, I think it’s nuts. I have three little girls. I wouldn’t want to see any of them drafted into the Infantry. F*ck that. We don’t send our daughters to be cannon fodder. People can bitch about “equality” all day long, but that’s nonsense meant to deflect away from a society so decayed that any of our decision makers could think this is a good idea. It has as much to do with “equality” as homosexual “marriage” does with “love.”

They can work non-combat roles away from the front.

But they sure as hell dont deserve the right to vote to send three boys off to war, while they get to relax back home.

No. Men just started thinking with their other head for a change.

There are plenty of roles outside of combat.

They can be drafted and do those roles.

Thinking of battles of the past, I just don’t agree with women being drafted.
Seeing what I saw, I know that women in combat is a bad idea. Even the Israeli’s gave up on women in combat units and they are in a much worse situation manpower wise than we are. The fact that these guys didn’t have the back bone to not be PC on this issue disqualifies them.

They're not talking about non-combat roles. Women are being allowed into combat arms positions. You think they'll close off draftee women from those roles?

But they sure as hell dont deserve the right to vote to send three boys off to war, while they get to relax back home.

A hell of a lot of men get to do that, too, but it's part of the burden of society men must bear. It's that simple. Maybe that makes me just so old-fashioned, but I really don't care.

What does one have to do with the other? It is against common sense to allow women to fight. You’d have to be out of your ever-loving mind.

“If politicians risked sending their daughters as well as their sons into harm’s way, I would hope they would make those decisions with extreme care.”

That, unfortunately, is the idea. The Left wants to so emasculate the US military that they will be operationally unfit for major warfare. Too much “extreme care” will kill us.
