How Donald Trump Broke the GOP’s Music Curse (he keeps playing Adele even after she complains)
Politico ^ | Feb 7 2016 | Review Troy

Donald Trump has been blowing up the old traditional GOP certainties left and right, and this week he overturned another one. In what seemed like an embarrassing rebuke, on February 1, Adele told the Republican front-runner that he didn’t have her permission to use her songs at his massive campaign events. Adele might just be the world’s most popular singer at the moment, and any normal candidate would have folded his tent, chastened. Not Trump. At his rally in Little Rock, Arkansas two days later the crowd of thousands listened to Adele’s “Skyfall” before Trump’s helicopter landed. A day after that, in Exeter, New Hampshire, Adele’s “Rolling In the Deep” could be heard blaring behind the candidate when he made his entrance

“Well, I think we’re learning, by their tacit and explicit support of Trump, that a lot of ‘conservatives’ have really just been con-men all this time.”

Organized Conservatism is opposing Trump, or did you miss that? Conservative officeholders and think tanks don’t have anything to show for the years of GOP control of Congress and the White House since Bush came in. Now, they’re upset that Trump isn’t relying on them but has an independent attitude.

I’ll be glad when he’s defeated and his supporters go back into their crevices and under their rocks. Then conservatives get back to the serious job of saving the country.

And that will happen with Hillary in the White House , how, exactly? But hey, if it makes you feel righteous and pure as wind driven snow, then sure, it's worth it.

I think the recording artists have been screwed over for decades. There are examples of a band's debut album going gold and their royalties are almost nothing after such things as "marketing expenses" get deducted from them.

That's a main reason all these aging bands still tour. Concerts are their main source of revenue. Only the biggest acts can make a living on royalties alone, even though they sold many records and had their songs played on radio countless times.

Copperheadism was a New York value. Cruz supporters hate New York and apparently hate the south - making an exception with Texas, it appears. I love New York, Trump, the south and come from a long line of Copperheads and (sorry to say) Union draft dodgers.

You make excellent points. Perhaps some of us are moving on from organized or corporate conservatism to a ideology that is simple common sense. Whatever Trump’s failings, he’s loaded with horse sense.

I appreciate you comment on my character. Yes, if Trump is defeated, I will go back under my rock.

I’ll hide and watch you and yours destroy this country while I stock up on food, pay off any bills and thank God daily that I live rural and will be one of the last hit.

Conservatives have done nothing, and I do mean nothing, to save this country or even try. They have a million excuses as to why they haven’t been able to yet and will have another million in the future for inaction. It’s too bad they can’t try being Americans first.

About my interpretation of the law? Or that I would ever invite you to one of my barbecues?

I find your interpretation of the law doubtful. My house is still my house even if I have friends over. If I have a legal copy of the song I can play it without it being a "public performance" (unless I sell tickets.) I also doubt that someone blasting their car stereo while driving is considered a public performance, although they might be guilty of violating noise ordinances. (Has anyone ever been citied for violating noise ordinances wile playing Steely Dan?)

If Trump needs a campaign song, he could use There's a New Day Coming by the Sam Ross Silver Town Orchestra.

When you call all Trump supporters trash, as you just did, then your protestations about Trump having no class are revealed for the hypocracy they are.

You have no problem insulting people. Why do you pretend it bothers you when Trump does it?

If so, then I would like to see Sarah Palin play Barracuda, pay the royalties, and tell the Wilson sisters to go pound Seattle sand.

There are so many things that Trump does that continually increase my fondness for him, even though I’ll probably vote Cruz.

Oh, I see - your first attack did not fly - so you pull attempt number two out of your butt - that dog won’t hunt either.
