I love this story. And the movie.
Cool story. They should make a movie about it or something.
What?!! Been done?? Never mind.........
He apparently doesn’t like the movie:
“I’m not trying to prove anything,’’ Oher said. “People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don’t really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That’s why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field.
“This stuff, calling me a bust, people saying if I can play or not ... that has nothing to do with football. It’s something else off the field. That’s why I don’t like that movie.’’
Me too. Every time they play the film, I take the time to watch it. It’s such a powerful story.
Yes, it’s a great movie. Guess I have to root for Carolina now. Which is fine, we were kind of going to root for them anyway, East Coast rules! (something like that, we all had a bad season with our teams!)
I also am an Adoptive MOM, but I just consider myself MOM...
We were very blessed as we got our son as a new born, and he recently turned 44 ..oh my how did that happen!!!!
He was a gift on day one, he is a gift today and I always tell him how lucky we have been...He was always smart, bright, talented and has achieved much in life...tall, handsome and gifted...He was so easy to raise...
Not Flesh of my Flesh, not Bone of my Bone, but still Miraculously my Own, and I never forgot for a single minuet, he didn’t grow under my Heart, HE GREW IN IT...
That’s beautiful. Bless you for that.
Let me share another part of the story...
Son was three years old, and BINGO I became pregnant after 14 years of marriage!! and had a beautiful daughter...ANOTHER GIFT.
Life has been good to us...and we are Thankful.
Y’all have a wonderful Winter week end...
Hope he is wise enough to hold on to and invest his money and fame like Earl Campbell and George Forman have done.
I loved this movie...an American tale!!! Tough guy that I am,...I cried throughout this movie!!! They were tears of joy for a little boy, down on his luck, who was loved and helped by people of good faith, heart & soul, and, who grew into everything that he could be!!! God Bless America!!! And, God blss Michael Oher!!!
WoW!
I really like this tale :-)
I highly recommend the book The Blind Side. Not only for the story of Mchael Oher's and the Tuohys, but for some great football stories. If you're a fan of the game at all, you'll love it.
IIRC, the movie was based on only one chapter of the book.
What is he complaining about? The movie portrayed him as a superb athlete. I don’t understand how anyone who saw the movie would call him a “bust.”
He — like all athletes — is getting older. He is not as consistently quick as he used to be. That’s why he’s criticized, not because of some long ago movie.
You are right. The book was fantastic. The author taught us a lot about football. Bill Walsh vs. Bill Parcels. Throw in Lawerence Taylor forming the need to protect the blind side. Then there was the funny part. The big black kid was a fish out of water. The funniest line was from an out of stte relative: “I’m on my 3rd beer. Who is this big black kid in your family Christmas picture?”
Didn’t bother to see the movie. Sandra Bullock does not look like someone’s mother. It probably emphasized racism more than it should.
...Oh wait. (just wanted to post her pic) hehe
I know this family a bit from church and we have a number of mutual friends who know them better than I do. I talked to Michael just before training camp opened a few seasons back. I really get the sense he has his head on straight. Sean Tuohy has built a significant empire of roughly 100 fast food restaurants. He knows how to handle and make money and he still has a lot of influence on Michael. I’d be surprised if Michael ended up broke.
Exactly so.
It seems to diminish him to hear him say that. It seems...ungraceful or ungrateful.
