Ryan, McCarthy again tell Chaffetz to stay away from Clinton
Politico ^ | February 4,2016 | JAKE SHERMAN and RACHAEL BADE

Speaker Paul Ryan and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy met privately with Rep. Jason Chaffetz Wednesday evening to reiterate that he cannot proceed with any investigation that involves Hillary Clinton, according to multiple sources familiar with the meeting.

The impetus for the gathering was a POLITICO story where Chaffetz, the chairman, of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, was quoted as saying that a pending probe into government record keeping practices would not be "specifically trying to target the secretary, but when she creates her own private email system, she's ensnarled herself.” Presented with the quote before publication, House Republican leaders were taken aback, saying they told Chaffetz to steer clear of Clinton in his broader probe of the use of personal email addresses to conduct government business.

House Republican leadership is moving cautiously when it comes to Clinton. Ryan and McCarthy have been clear about their preference that the FBI handle anything Clinton related. But Chaffetz's comments led to confusion in Republican leadership.

Although this stinks to high heaven - let's face it, nothing happens with these investigations. They cost millions of dollars and nothing comes of them. For reference, please see Dan Burton / Darryl Issa / Trey Gowdy and Jason Chaffetz himself.

Why not just cut to the chase knowing what the result is gonna be?

What did Ryan and McCarthy do that they’re trying to cover up?

I agree, let the FBI run with this until DoJ decides to pull the plug.

Remember the damage done to the Bengazi investigation when that moron went on the record saying it was being used to inflict political damage on Clinton. After that, I understand the desire of GOP leadership to let an ostensibly neutral third party (FBI) take the lead and the hits.

These guys are being blackmailed by the Dems. That is the only thing that makes any sense here (or they are just as corrupt as the Dems, I suppose). The constant avoidance of any conflict is not going to sit well with a majority of GOP voters as this corruption has to be addressed. If the shoe were on the other foot, the Dems would be going pedal-to-the-metal to destroy a GOP candidate and not worry one iota about any backlash.

A vote for anyone but Cruz is a vote for these bozos, Ryan and McCarthy, to continue in their *leadership* positions.

Hopefully, the FBI will do exactly what we want to have done to her...The FBI can do anything. The DOJ will say “Never happen.” We no longer have a Nation Of Laws.

Government is just one big uniparty out to stick it to the people. Not what the Founding Fathers intended.

And it is increasingly poor and predictable kabuki theater with which they entertain us.

All the FBI can do is make a recommendation.

It’s going to be up to Loretta Lynch to actually issue an indictment, and that’s never going to happen, just like Eric Holder wouldn’t indict himself when Congress recommended him for indictment.

Without an independent prosecutor (or a Republican winning the Presidency and replacing the AG), nothing will happen, because the Democrat party holds itself above the law.

Otherwise, Hillary will just have more ammo for her absurd claim that she is being persecuted by a vast, right-wing conspiracy.

Yeah, my thoughts, too. Am waiting to see what rocks turn over in Gowdy's upcoming report.

Now, if the Republicans had the hair to do a full-blown investigation Democrat-style - when the committee meets, lock the doors and don't let the Democrats in (the way the Dems locked out the Rs) - then I'd be more inclined to say 'Go for it!'

“Has to get through four levels of Democrat controlled offices to get that done.”

Not true.

All I’m talking about is an FBI recommendation for prosecution. T?hey make their own investigation and their own recommendations, and Comey has a reputation for being a stand up guy with integrity. We’ll see what he does.

Exactly.

Hitlery will look pretty stupid saying it’s a conspiracy if the FBI is the only one involved in making the decision on this.

Ping.

Yeah, take it easy on poor Hillary.

Today the National Enquirer reports:

Bill Clinton Battling Brain Damage.

Probably caused by all those flying ashtrays.

I agree with you.

However, I think this is a pretty a pretty good best case scenario for us.

How does she explain the FBI’s recommendation to prosecute?

What kind of hits is the Obama Adminstration going to take for that, and how corrupt is it going to look doing it?

What is the public going to think about voting for someone who is a felon?

This has the makings for some juicy entertainment, and it all benefits the Republican candidate.

I think we are going to find out what the FBI does soon. The GOP can’t really do anything else in the meantime.

What Lynch does from there is not that important, because Hitlery’s reputation will be down the drain, and the Rats will look corrupt.

Has Cruz even mentioned these criminal acts? I know Trump has. One reason I like Trump is he is not a Politician.

Today's Democrats would give Benedict Arnold a pass if he were a Democrat, too.

If the FBI lays out a solid case against Clinton that her actions were more damaging to the country than Petraeus, then the House should impeach Lynch.

They would have to do something.
