Cruz: No Action Against Staffers Who Spread False Rumor Ben Carson Was Dropping Out
Real Clear Politics ^

Posted on 02/03/2016 2:04:43 PM PST by springwater13

Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz said he will not discipline staffers who spread a rumor that Ben Carson was going to drop out of the race in an attempt to get Carson supporters to caucus for Cruz in Iowa. Cruz appeared on the Mike Gallager Show on Wednesday and talked about staffers who pushed a report that Carson wasn't going on to campaign in New Hampshire or South Carolina.

Show me the quote where Cruz’s people said that Carson was out.

The Gabriel tweet said that he had confirmed with Carson’s NH campaign people that Carson was out. It was deleted after Carson basically said that nothing mentioned means that he’s officially out. (He’s still not campaigning in NH or SC, after telling Hannity on an interview a while back that he is a pragmatist and would quit if he didn’t win the first couple primaries).

Please it was a close race with many conservatives and also the evangelicals from West Iowa who voted in record numbers for Trump. Carson got taken advantage of and that was nasty.

I don’t know anything about Gabriel, except that he tweeted a specific source that could plausibly have confirmed that Carson had said he was going to quit.

Did he really? I don’t know. But I’m not gonna claim it was a great big fraud, slimy technique when I don’t know what happened. I’ve already posted what I suspect happened, and that is that Carson’s NH people were told he was going to quit. And one reason I say that is because CArson’s official campaign website has no campaign events listed at all, for anywhere.

You're a regular Nancy Drew. /s

I don't think you know who you are addressing. I am as disgusted as anyone here about the continuing stream of dirty tricks coming from the Cruz campaign. Cruz has hired a bunch of “experts” whose are specialists at manipulating social media and the mainstream media. In other words Cruz has hired a pack of professional liars because he wants to win the race no matter what the cost.

As far as butterdezillion goes she is much more than the fictional character Nancy Drew ever could hope to be. Her investigatory skills are legendary on Free Republic. I have asked her to look into Dan Gabriel's role in the Cruz campaign. I know she believes in what is right and I hopes she will look into this.

i do think Carson was taken advantage of:

by CNN— that hates conservatives—and this of course includes Carson

by Trump— who called him pathological again and again and mocked his religious conversion following his violent youth

Trumps original ad hominem attacks against Carson that were so absurd and drove his original high numbers down should be the more reasonable focus of his problems— not the odd logistics of his peculiar travel revelations.

I feel sorry for him. I think he’s a good guy and he seemed really tired. It’s not like him to be grudging, and he held strong on the fact that sharia is opposed to the US Constitution. His campaign had experienced tragic loss and he was good to take time off to care for his IA team. I do think he deserved to be able to announce his resignation on his own terms, and that’s why I’m really sad that the message got out to CNN who made it fair game for both Rubio and Cruz to talk about. I think Cruz felt sorry about it too, and that may be why he apologized.

I don’t think Cruz did anything wrong, but I wish for Carson’s sake that it had not gone like this. And I fear that somebody is either agitating him or trying to milk this for all it’s worth - which, if so, is scummy. The man has run a good race and should be able to have his announcement and be able to rest.

I hate politics. I really, really hate politics, because it brings out the worst in people.

These are the same comments made about Trump not doing the debate. I think these non-politicians have their own way of doing things. But, candidates might want to do some fact checking before they get their candidates into the mix, or else, they put their candidates in the middle of it.

Carson was taken advantage of by team Cruz. To be fair, they saw it on CNN, but Cruz should know how much, in your words, that CNN hates conservatives. I guess the smartest guy in the room is not that smart, not that Christian, and sorry to say, not that conservative.

Cruz isn’t going to go against the staff he told to lie about Carson.

There’s no source for what I was saying ... they were doing their usual roundtable chatting and going on about their travel plans home because the blizzard was just beginning ... and then they started talking about the candidates being snowed in and missing NH, etc. They talked about hillary’s and bernie’s planes side by side on the tarmac. Then they talked about what so and so would be doing re the weather ... and the carson report was amongst those .. at this point, they hadn’t even mentioned the content of the report ... I am certain your transcript was correct.

He was out of his league to start with......which is why once his staff began breaking off should have been a heads up to Carson right then. He simply doesn’t know the terrain. Instead he talked them back....and it went downhill from there.

Cruz apoligized NOT that the information got out, for it was already out there, but for Cruz staffs failure to tweet out Casons denial that he wasn’t leaving the race. Which in reality was up to Carson to do and should have been done in a news cycle rather than just a tweet.

Also.....Carson really wasn’t up to snuff to run for President in the first place.......would a politician step into his surgical suites and attempt brain surgery on one of his patients? This is exactly what Ben was doing in this race for President. For he was more than qualified to seek the Surgeon General position without running.

about 4 PM or so, CNN tweeted that Cruz was going to Florida for R&R. It was re-tweeted by Team Rubio at about 6:30 PM Team Cruz re-tweeted it near the start of the caucus at about 7 PM.

I'm disappointed in Team Cruz. They need to retweet faster next time.

Thank you for the kind words. I start a new job tomorrow so I’m not sure how my days are gonna go from here on out, but as I get the chance I will look into the connections that have been mentioned with Gabriel. Wherever Soros is involved there are reasonable concerns, and I could be giving too much benefit of the doubt.

What you did in your post was revolutionary. You remembered the trust you had in me, and made me remember the trust I had in you. I see so many people here who have stood together on so many things, and I see them at each other’s throats not really listening to each other, and it hurts. I feel like Gandalf watching as the Council of Elrond descends into accusatory chaos while Sauron whispers his crescendo of intoxicating demonic agitation.

WE have a horrible enemy, and I can’t wait until we figure out who is Aragorn, who is Legolas, who is Borimir, who is Frodo, and who is Sam - Sam the most humble and in the lowliest position but the one who ultimately defeated Sauron because of his LOVE for Frodo. In the end it is love which wins. I hope we come back to love. For each other, for our country, and for the truth.

"I think you will have to come up with more than that to defeat the revealed substance of what is going on here. There was not a record turnout in Iowa - exceeding Obama's 2008 record - because of this meaningless conflict. There was a record turnout for conservatism because Cruz has done the hard work of running a ground campaign for months in Iowa. Carson and Trump think they can take casual shots from the sidelines of politics and denounce any practical efforts at gaining votes on the ground as unethical."

This is the one thing that assures me that Trump will win, because Cruz is supported by a special brand of dumbass like you.

RON PAUL finished third in the 2012 Iowa GOP caucuses but walked away with the top-winning 22 delegates!:

C'mon give me some panic you Zevangelical doormat! LOL. < whip crack > Yaah yaah! C'mon mule!

Carson looks like he is out. Iowans need to know before they vote. Most will go to Cruz, I hope.

I think it was a wee bit more serious than you let on.. King is cruz' national chair or something along those lines.

It's one thing to think he's going to drop out. It's another thing to act as if he is or already has and tell his voters to change their support as a result.

To pass along the CNN tweet to caucus goers is fine.

If somebody changed the tweet and then passed it on to caucus voters then that wouldn't be fine.

Don’t worry, team Cruz wasted no time shouting it out the old school way in the venues throughout Iowa. How convenient.
