I've heard that about the Castro - still have friends in the area although I haven't been back more than twice in 20 years. People who complain about that being a gay district weren't there before that, when the hippie invasion turned to heroin. My friend - a doctor about to retire - says that it's simple economics, and that you can't gentrify (or keep up with the taxes) on a fixed income anymore.
I was there through the 80's and saw the whole AIDS thing turn the place into something out of a plague novel. Lost some damn good people who just couldn't manage the self-control necessary to protect themselves. Some others were aiding and abetting the disease just as hard as they could - I thought then, and still do, that there is a suicidal streak in people attracted to the lifestyle. My Doc friend was working his residency in the ER at San Francisco General and has some blood-curdling stories. Wild times.
It’s no longer cool to be gay!
“They can go anywhere. We can’t.”
Decidedly not true. Not only can guys go anywhere but they are celebrated in most places and its illegal to dent them admittance.
Sounds like an identity crisis because Gay is no longer special. Next we will hear about the taxpayer funded need to preserve the disappearing gay culture.
Yes, it existed, but was converted to a restaurant some years ago — funny story, one time in the mid ‘80s, my mom and stepdad were driving up Coast Highway and he needed a restroom break and unfortunately picked that place to stop. He didn’t say much about it, other than he nearly lost his virginity just walking back to the restroom (for which Mom smacked him ... LOL).
“...if you’ll excuse the term, Dr. Warfield, “The Purple Pit”. —Buddy Love
Do they still yell out “Breeders!” when a woman walks into a homosexual bar?
It was even clearer to me when I was in Pattaya, Thailand. There are all these alleys off the main drag that cater to tourists. I started to go down one alley and I saw bar names like Boys Boys Boys, Boy Toys and The Cockpit. I immediately beat a hasty retreat to the main drag.
“Specialized Social services”? Is that gay slang for holes in the bathroom stall walls, or backroom bath houses?
Hell in a hand basket.
“Peter Piper poked a pack of purple picklers.....”
Homosexuals call themselves Gay like Fascists call themselves liberals.
Oh man, laughed so dang hard it hurt!
Tell me when they leave Sausileto, that was a beautiful town before they took over.
âThe Dyke March has become this huge frat party ⦠All these straight dudes and their girlfriends are descending on the park and setting up hammocks,â Sueyoshi said. âItâs a little bit sad.â
She followed up with an email: âI do like to go to places in and around the Castro for Happy Hour or a snack and Iâve noticed more straight people making out at these places where I go deliberately to NOT feel like I am oppressed by heterosexuality. Really, straight people do you HAVE to make out in the Castro as well? Good Lord.â
Yes, economics is driving all the changes to SF. I worked as an IT Systems Engineer running the data center for Dept. of Health in SF, very early 1990s. Had lots of meetings with administrators and IT staff running SF General. Very strange, many of them were gay/lesbian. Don't know if that has changed, and whether any of them ended up as patients. I knew some IT staff that got ill and passed, but don't know if it was AIDS, I didn't ask. Did that gig for a couple years, strange time for me.
Old timers can't keep up with the gentrification in housing, and are moving away. We're currently remodeling my mother-in-law's home in Glen Park (many are being upgraded), and are seeing prices go up ten percent every year - insane. The blue-collar home my wife grew up in is now worth 1.5 million. Techies are flooding in and driving prices and rents sky high. Many of those gays who came here a few decades ago are renters and can't keep up, and are moving away.
As Libtards are fond of pointing out, "If you have to say it, you probably are it"
but I don't want to go to a gay bar and buy some guy a drink and have him smirk and tell me he's straight. They can go anywhere. We can't."
In San Fran? You can do as you please. Even piss and crap in public!
ewwww...ick!
But it’s okay if a hetero male is turned away by a Lesbo.
Gays are a group that doesn’t reproduce. They sometimes have kids, but the kids are likely to be straight. It’s hard to claim real estate for the next generation like Chinese or black families can. Gay men have to be honest about that. They don’t beget other gay men.
