Ted Cruz, Triumphant
The National Review ^ | February 1, 2016 | David French

Posted on 02/01/2016 10:28:42 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

I tip my cap, unreservedly, to Ted Cruz. With everything on the line - and so many GOP colleagues cowed and intimidated - he took on Donald Trump and won. Late last year I wrote that the GOP needed an actual leader, someone who would step up and take on Trump directly:

Now is the time. A presidential campaign is an early test of leadership, a proving ground for dealing with the challenges of the world's most difficult job. I don't want the last man standing. I want the guy who took down the king. If Trump can absorb the best shots from the Republican party's best young talent, then he deserves the nomination. If one of the two talented freshman senators can dethrone The Donald, then at least we have some assurance that they can first stand strong against the coming Clinton onslaught and then have the strength of will to lead a nation desperate not just for wisdom but for the right kind of tough-minded leadership.

Cruz challenged the king of polls - the man who'd intimidated so many others - and he won. And he did so when the conventional wisdom said that he'd lose - that the larger the turnout, the greater the chance that Trump would win. Instead, with record Iowa turnout, Cruz won.

This is a deeply encouraging moment for the conservative movement. To his immense and undying credit, Cruz refused to pander on ethanol, he defied Iowa's popular governor, and he stuck to his conservative principles - and he won.

Yes, Marco Rubio exceeded all expectations, but tonight was Ted Cruz's night. There is much hard fighting ahead, but had Trump won, we would even now be shuddering not just for the future of the conservative movement but for the future of a nation bounded and governed by constitutional principles. Cruz stood up when others fled. Iowa rewarded him for his courage, and tonight Cruz is ascendant, Trump is in retreat, and the conservative movement breathes the air of new life and new hope.

New Hampshire represents a different challenge, and the race is far from over, but Cruz deserves the accolades - and momentum - he'll get from Iowa. Well done, Ted. You did your part for your country on this crucial night.

Yes! Ted said to give God the glory!

I know this may come as a foreign concept to you, but those of us that live Christianity as the basis of our daily lives, not just something we do on Sunday, take seriously the Scripture that says, "In everything give Him thanks!" So as a Christian, for Ted to give God glory is appropriate - not something to be sneered at, as you are attempting to do.

Dr. Carson Unhappy About CNN Report That He Was Taking A Break From 2016 Race

"There was a brief period of time where Dr. Ben Carson was believed to be the man who could stop the Donald Trump train and Iowa was going to be the state where he proved that.

Those days appear to be over after the mainstream media launched a brutal series of attacks against Carson and he now finds himself on the outside looking in according to most major polls.

The media is practically giddy at the idea of Ben Carson dropping out and CNN took some "insider" information live onto the air today that was a little misleading and the Carson campaign was apparently extremely upset."......

Unfavorables? Ha! Obamas unfavorables should be in the cesspool, but they are not! It is all how the pollsters ask the question! How can your unfavorables be bad if you are leading in many local & national polls? It is not logical.

Cruz is too righteous for most Americans. He will not pull independents and Democrats. Democrats have already started legal action to keep Cruz off of the Illinois ballot. More will come.

Depends on the poll. I have seen others that site Trump beating Hillary.

Rubio was only a point further off the lead than Trump, “they” backed him, not Cruz. Cruz is the choice of real conservatives.

Not criticizing any Cruz supports nor resident Trump loathers.

NRO, David French explains:

but had Trump won, we would even now be shuddering not just for
the future of the conservative movement but for the future of a nation
bounded and governed by constitutional principles.

A GOP-e minion concerned about the Country and conservative principles. The likes of French have never been so fired up. Reminds me of McCain and P. King bemoaning the rise of Cruz.

Tired of these "conservative" clowns.

The voice of conservatism in digital news media does not yet exist.

Cruz’s supporters repeated a CNN report .they didn’t start the storythey just repeated it.

And nobody has shown any data that has Carson caucus goers jumping ship as a result of the CNN story.

Congratulations, Ted Cruz, You Just Won More Votes in a GOP Caucus Than Anyone... Ever!

"The Cruz campaign earned applause tonight. The turnout was huge, and their man won, and won solidly, in the face of some withering attacks, with almost everything on the line. Take that bow, senator; you just won more votes in the Iowa caucus than any other Republican in history."

The Trump Slump

"Cruz's win suggests that principled conservatism is perhaps slightly more attractive than some of us had thought."

I have no problem with YHWH. It’s His world. My problem is with Ted’s use of God in his campaign in such a calculating way. We will see if it is genuine if he continues his preaching in New Hampshire. Otherwise, it was just a cynical tactic to fool gullible Christians. Jesus said He doesn’t like those who lead His people astray.

“Leaving AFTER tonight” is not the same as “Leaving the CAMPAIGN”, right?

Oh, silly me. In your world, I forgot, it would be a non-story, no difference at all, look over there. Who? Me? What? But...?

I think we get the picture. Carry on.
