He likes single payer in Canada and Scotland, and says it could have worked here at a different time. Which is idiotic, because the problems with single payer (wait times, doctor shortages, rationing, decreased innovation) are inherent in the system and thus universal, not specific to the U.S., and certainly not specific to the U.S. right now.
So, Trump either has a total lack of understanding of the health care issue (which would explain his praise of single payer in Canada and Scotland), or he is just pandering when he says he doesn’t want it here.

Opening those borders allows cross-state competition. It would also be nice to be able to import medicines from other countries, so that they can stop billing us for 10 times the amount for a medicine that you can get even in Europe for a lot cheaper.

Trump likes the socialized single payer system Scotland has. Bernie Sanders wants the same sort of system. Or is what he said in the first debate no longer relevant.
