While conservatives have been busy working, building families, etc, the communists took control of the schools, the news media, and the popular culture industry. They effectively indoctrinated at least 2 generations of Americans and continue to do so. While the US beat the USSR in the Cold War, the US did not defeat the communist enemies at home, and now here we are.
The same way the supporters of Eugene McCarthy felt in 1968, or the supporters of Ernst Thalmann did in 1932, or the supporters of Leon Trotsky did in 1921.
