Trust Ted? Cruz Facing Growing Attacks on Credibility
ABC ^ | 1/31/2016 | STEVE PEOPLES AND SCOTT BAUER

Ted Cruz needs you to trust him.

Trust is the cornerstone of this fiery conservative's campaign, which may live or die with his ability to convince voters in Iowa and across the nation that he's the most consistent and trustworthy among the pack of White House hopefuls.

Yet as he strives for victory in Iowa's Monday caucuses, a chorus of Republican critics led by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is tearing at the fabric of Cruz's message.

His GOP opponents cite a history of political opportunism they say is more in line with a used car salesman than the "consistent conservative" he claims to be. In debates, TV ads and on the campaign trail, fellow Republicans are highlighting inconsistencies in Cruz's policies on immigration, foreign policy and even his dedication to Christian conservative values. They're also reminding voters that the self-described outsider is an Ivy League-educated lawyer who served in former President George W. Bush's administration.

"If you are going to campaign as the most principled, the most consistent conservative, then your record better support that," said Rubio's senior strategist Todd Harris. "As long as he holds himself out to be holier than thou on all things conservative, we're going to continue to point out that he's not."

“I’m with you. I have caught myself looking elsewhere. Anyone know anything about Gilmore?”

Gilmore was a good governor here in VA. His stead hand saw us through 9/11, and he stood by his promises to eliminate the hated personal property tax, moving toward phasing it out until Mark Warner came to office.

And...

Gilmore is the only GOP candidate with military experience, having served in the Army. Gilmore enlisted in the United States Army after attending college, receiving training and preparation for service in the Military Intelligence Corps at the newly created United States Army Intelligence Center at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. Gilmore also received rigorous foreign language education at the United States Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. Gilmore then worked for three years in the early 1970s, in the 650th Military Intelligence Group. Gilmore served in West Germany during the Vietnam War and is fluent in the German language.

Wow. Is he a social conservative too? The elimination of the private property tax is a huge thing. Shows he has the proper perspective.

Cruz is screwing up bigtime.

Beck endorsement started the ball rolling and VOTING VIOLATION finished him off.

Like I have said before: It's over. It's over now.

Who does Cruz most often vote against? Chuck Schumer. Pretty darn conservative, by any measure.

You mean the same Chuck Schumer who got a campaign contribution from Donald Trump and who Trump said he would make deals with? That Chuck Schumer?

Yeah. We all see things through our own lens. I hope constitutional conservatism survives this war. Oh well. God is still in His heaven. His eye is on the sparrow so... Whatever happens, we know God can still be trusted to see us through it.

Cruz has credibility issues!? Nothing like Trump, but we’ll just put our heads in the sand until he has the nomination. Single payer health care will be great!

Yes.. he’s a social conservative too. It’s unfortunate he’s largely ignored. If he were competitive, I’d vote for him in a minute.

You don't do your credibility any favors by promoting that propaganda.

I’m sure some will differ, but from where I sit it’s clear which side tried to stay on the high road and which side purposely steered it off into the muddy ditch.

Honestly I have tried to look at 12 candidates to see who you are speaking of and it must be Carson. The others have all done things to dishonor themselves as a whole.

Since day one, Trump has run against Obamacare. He has explained his healthcare plan. What do you call someone who does not tell the truth?
