South Carolina House Passes Bill Excluding Sharia Law From State Courts

The South Carolina House has passed a bill blocking Islamic sharia law from being recognized or approved in the state, after years of debate over similar legislation.

The legislation voted upon was explained as "A bill to amend the code of laws of South Carolina ... so as to prevent a court or other enforcement authority from enforcing foreign law including, but not limited to, Sharia Law in this state from a forum outside of the United States or its territories under certain circumstances."

On Thursday, the legislation passed with 68 for the bill and 42 opposed.

Sharia law is the legal and political system mandated in the Koran and other Islamic texts. It include laws governing religious practice, such as praying and ritual washing. But sharia also rules what Westerners see as non-government social practices - divorce, child-rearing, free-speech, clothing or sexual behavior, for example - and it also rules government responses to crimes, such as theft and murder.

Sharia law relegates women and non-Muslims to a lesser status, and grants men enormous authority over wives, daughters and sons. It allows for the primitive treatment of women and non-Muslims, and allows fierce punishment - sometimes, "honor killings" by fathers - for refusing to complying with sharia mandates... snip

Tea Party and conservative grassroots organizations are credited with initiating the movement to ban sharia rules through the state legislatures. Conservative leaders Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, and Michele Bachmann have publicly advocated for the need to enact nation-wide legislation against the threat of sharia.

If passed by the Senate, will the Governor sign it?

Forty-two of our legislators wanted Islamic law allowed here.

This is not a good sign.

The 42 opposed are probably Lindsey Graham allies...

Don’t know and the article doesn’t say. Since Nikki has been against the resettlement of Muslim refugees in SC, my guess is that she would sign the bill.

Bet I could point out on a State map which areas most of these 42 represent. Are the voters in those areas educated well? They are not.

Good. Many people compare sharia to Jewish law, which is accepted as domestic or contract law in a number of states that have Orthodox Jewish communities. In other words, things like divorces, child custody and civil law contract disputes can be negotiated through Jewish law, although it still must be in accordance with the prevailing civil law. It’s basically the equivalent of mediation, and the actual civil legal formalities still remain.

However, Islamic law (sharia) governs many more things than that and in addition is simply opposed to US law, whether civil or criminal, in such a way that it is not possible to accept sharia at any judicial level.

I’ll bet you our Congressidiot James E. Clyburn opposed this bill tooth & nail.

It’s a real shame that steps like this are needed. It just shows how far we have fallen as a country.

But the leftists got the legislature to pay attention to sharia law and put it into people s minds that it is an alternative form of government. This now gives them a wedge to drive into the tree to start chopping it down. You got to know how the deceives think. Now they will work this incrementally using the MSM to promote the agenda while promoting the Muslim lifestyle. Expect reality shows, comedy TV sitcoms (which they are already doing), and toy commercials with young Muslim children smiling and laughing. See they’re harmless doncha see?

That's only because they do not understand that their hands would be chopped off and that half of them would be flung off of rooftops.

How ironic. I bet that the 42 who voted to recognize Sharia law also swear by Gaia that they are committed to women’s rights and equality. Sharia law, of course, places women as being less valuable than property, and with fewer rights.

I bet these 42 who have no problem with Sharia law are the very same people who lecture Christians that they should not “impose” their values by so much as saying anything.

Nikki Haley may decide she will get great admiration from the national press and the GOP establishment if she vetoes the bill. Whatever she decides will be based on politics and self interest, not a concern for the will and safety of the people.

Even if the bill is signed into law, Obama with the acquiescence and support of the GOP in the US Senate has appointed hundreds of leftist judges to the federal district and appeals courts who will delight in striking down the bill with CAIR or another Muslim group brings a case to them.
