Tax The Guns
Tampa Tribune ^ | January 29, 2016 | Greg Olson

Here's an idea.

If we can't outlaw guns or confiscate them, tax them.

Make it a law to register everyone's guns and then charge a tax yearly for each one of them.

Slowly raise the taxes every year (due to an increasing bureaucracy to handle the paperwork) so they become too expensive to own.

When and if the taxes are overdue, take out a lien on the guns and foreclose on them.

Hold them until exorbitant taxes, storage and lawyer fees (more than the gun is worth) are paid.

If not paid in a timely fashion, they will be destroyed.

If a gun is not registered to be taxed it will be confiscated because it was not reported, not because it is illegal to own.

Fines and back taxes will have to be paid to get the weapon back.

If not paid in a timely fashion, they will be destroyed.

A certificate must be attached to every single weapon to prove the yearly tax has been paid.

A fairly common idea which fails the test of a tax. Any tax must have the purpose of raising revenue and not designed to prohibit an activity. Otherwise, the government could limit the freedom of the press by increasing taxes on ink to price newspapers out of existence.

"If a gun is not registered to be taxed it will be confiscated...."

Confiscation? Hmm, why didn't we think of that before....

Let's have a first amendment tax. Slowly raise the tax so newspapers like this cannot survive.

RETROACTIVELY raise the tax, beginning with the date of first publication.

On second thought, the Libtards would agree, "After all, we have the Ministry of Truth to inform us of everything we NEED to know."

"Plus, we have E!TV, DMZ, Jerry Springer and Oprah!"

Here’s an idea:

If anyone tries to infringe upon your second amendment rights, shoot them.

” Any tax must have the purpose of raising revenue and not designed to prohibit an activity. “

What about cigarette taxes? They are designed to limit an activity. They sure work well, don’t they?

Go ahead and try it, lets see how long you remain in office when you enact this ruse.

My kook worthless jerk neighbor could have written this.

He’s written some pretty far out there letters to the editor a few times. I used to look them up every so often just to get some laughs.

And this will be enforced...how? Oh, right, by men with guns threatening violence for non-compliance. That sounds dangerously close to exactly why many people _have_ guns: to say “no” to people threatening armed violence for non-compliance.

Some people despise having freedom, they feel better being ruled over. Just look at the popularity of home owner associations as an example, they pay dues to give up private property rights. This this olson moron does not like gun ownership, he is free to not own one, he is free to be defenseless.

Florida passed a state law which made it a crime for a local official to fail to repeal a local law attempting to supersede state authority over the second amendment.

If any local body tried this, the elected official commits a crime punishable by jail or prison.
