FOX News Debate Anchors Actively Planned Zingers – Prepared to Escort Trump From Stage

FOX News debate anchors knew they would have a record audience tune in to their Republican debate because of Donald Trump.

So, in November, they purposely planned several zingers to get under his skin.

They are shameless.

The anchors didn't even ask a question on the Obama economy, the worst recovery since the Great Depression, until 73 minutes into the debate.

The FOX moderators won over Media Matters, who said, "The Fox News moderators appeared reasonable, effective, and pointed in their questions to the candidates." They must be very proud.

They didn't want to appear conservative - so they unloaded a barrage of personal attacks. The FOX debate hosts even prepared to have Trump escorted from stage. The LA Times reported:

As they sorted and re-sorted questions, the unpredictability of real estate tycoon and reality-TV star Donald Trump was never far from their minds.

"I would say the level is about an eight on the concern meter because of the unknown," Baier said.

Baier even had a "nuclear option" at the ready for Trump if he ignored all protocol.

The script -- which Baier didn't have to use -- took a page from Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice" TV show. It went like this: "Mr. Trump, in your business you have rules. You follow rules. We have rules on this stage. We don't want to have to escort you to the elevator outside this boardroom."

"We're hoping we don't have to use it," Baier said later. "[But] we're locked and loaded."

For anyone embedded with the news team on debate day, it became clear that it wasn't just the Republican hopefuls who would be on-stage this night -- but also Fox News, widely seen as the network most friendly to conservatives. No one here wanted to appear as if they were pitching softballs.

"You can't let them have that offramp" was Baier's rule as they hone each line.

Indeed, when Kelly rehearsed a question for another candidate -- delivered in the staccato style that adds to her reputation as a tenacious interrogator -- a producer at the table said, "He'll go berserk." That's a compliment for Kelly, who smiled.

For the individual anchors, the debate was also a chance to burnish their reputations. Kelly has emerged as the channel's prime-time star. Wallace is a seasoned veteran of the Washington beat. Baier has perhaps the most to gain from the expanded national spotlight.

Absolutely! OANN is the best! My wife and I love “Turning Point” and “The Ledger”. I can’t even imagine how I could been tuning into oreilly before I got rid of FAUX...

Trump is proved correct again. I had my doubts, but now it is clear: The media has their own agenda. It is not the agenda of the American people. It is an agenda driven by egos, careers, political bias and ratings.

Congratulations and Thank you Donald for once again showing the true nature of an institution that is complicit in the destruction of America.

For years conservatives, including me, have bitched about media bias and asking for someone to fight back. Now that someone, namely Trump is...and is winning, the very same conservatives are bitching because their guy needs a debate.

This is like his stance on illegal immigration. All over the place and desperate.

A four-sided coalition - media, pollsters, consultants, and donors - has seized control of a process that is supposed to be controlled by State Legislatures.

They even have involved the government we have the authority to replace with a Commission on Presidential Debates, to give the whole crooked, corrupt mess a sheen of authority.

None of what people love to discuss here - debates, polls, fundraising, conventions - is necessary to the actions of the States and the People, and a lot of it has become subversive.

Trump is my guy, and I hope this move doesn’t hurt him. But even if it does, a move to put these would-be masters of ours in their place, masters who have NO LEGITIMACY WHATSOEVER, is instinctively brilliant.

So, do to them what they do to everyone else: Make them deny it.

He’s NOT dodging FOX News, he’s revealing that they have shifted over to the dark side and I think it’s brilliant. Many conservatives are angered when Obama bows to our enemies and won’t stand up against EVIL, personally, I think Trump is standing up against this corrupted network.

Oh my l_ord.

That debate was where I saw Bret Baer’s true colors. And now we see how deep the paint was. They are a bunch of tribal GOPers. They think they ARE something or are important.

Back in college we had to read News from Nowhere and it is still true today: “news” is carefully scripted propaganda. Even when the American people are just trying to get information on candidates.

I hope after this election we do something different. Have the serious candidates buy 30 minute blocks of time and make their own: taped infomercials, live town halls, live speeches.

THIS JUST IN: (be sitting down, made up phony media heads for this live report) WE DONT NEED MODERATORS.

See, Wallace has always been a slimy mean girl-boy who thinks he knows so much more than anyone else but has a speech impediment and sounds like a four year old who sleeps with her teddy.

But I used to think the only thing wrong with Baer was that his mother still insisted on spraying his curls down and hardcore brushing them flat on his head for the school photo every day at Fox. That debate really let you see that he is a nasty spirited loser like the other two.

Like I said in my previous post, we the People have no need — and not any desire, either — for Debate Moderators. THERE IS NO ARTICLE ABOUT DEBATE MODERATORS IN OUR CONSTITUTION. We can do just fine without them.

Fox News made Trump the republican candidate with that debate. Not with knowledge of who is and what he stands for but because he can give it right back, comeback after comeback. So now we have a populist and not a conservative and people think they know what he stands for because he is giving it to the man but in reality he refuses to give his stances.

I think this has gone from being the most entertaining election cycle I have ever seen to the scariest. I have never understood how people could follow such awful past leaders hook-line-and-sinker into great evil. I get it now. Trump might turn out great but people are following him so blindly not knowing how he stands with a furor that and I find massively scary.

Trump does not avoid Fox. He likes Fox and Friends early in the morning and regularly appears on there other shows, except the Kelly File, where he hardly ever appeared before the first debate. Michele Malkin has not went on O’Reilly in years because she had a falling out with him years ago. O’Reilly took up for Obama as she was slamming him and of course O’Reilly told her she was a pin-head so she’s boycotted his show ever since. There are few Fox Shows she appears on. Breitbard and One America Network like Trump so there is none of this backstabbing and constantly interviewing people who hate him. To hell with Fox, there not much difference in them and the rest of the liberal stations. If you get OAN start watching it. 1000 times better than Fox from a real conservative perspective.

Trump might turn out great but

Following blindly, no. I just see him advancing the agenda more than anyone else. We know he is not a conservative, he is not running as a conservative. There are no guarantees but I like the odds.

Right now the power structure of media and central govt and bureaucracy needed to be torn down. Then we can rebuild. There is no fixing the current situation if you can understand the difference.

I was in Mongolia after the demise of the USSR. I observed two things:

1) they were rediscovering their heritage
2) they were exited about the future even though it was hard. It was like the frontier as they rebuilt.

Very few have read his books or looked at his platform. Most have uninformed opinions. Do that and then there can be a good discussion. We still get our info about the candidates from the media.

He is not a Reagan. It was a different time and place. There was at least some civility from the left and media at that time, now there is NONE.

Nobody likes confrontation. I don’t but it must be done.

We need a revolution. Trump might be the gentlest revolution. Other paths of revolution are? Our founders designed our system for political revolution such as this.

conservative issues will come in the rebuild as we rediscover our heritage.

In our lifetime, a world power (USSR) went kaput. We woke up and read the newspapers how it happened “overnight”. We are in the same position as the USSR at this moment. Conservatives should understand their history.

“Wallace and Baier were sneering pricks who in my opinion were even worse than Kelly.”

You’re right. They all had orders from the big guy. Kelly’s daily rant about Trump is sickening. She has the same Trump bashers on each night as predicable as the sun coming up in the morning. Erick Erickson more than anyone started the war with Trump and Kelly when he disinvited Trump from his “conservative” event, and said the reason was Trump had disrespected Kelly and talked about her menstrual cycle. Erickson goes on to slam Trump left and right and even said he wouldn’t have his kids in the same room with him. Fox ran with the story. As we all know lardass Erickson is one of the “conservatives” that signed the manifesto on NRO.

Jim thanks for your excellent summary of the bs foisted on to America by the GOPe/DEMe open borders rectums!

Malkin isn't that thin-skinned.

The incident was that in 2007 Malkin and Geraldo Rivera were debating immigration policy in the run-up to the failed comprehensive immigration reform bill being worked in Congress. Rivera was so angry at Malkin's position that he said that if he saw her on the street he'd spit at her.

O'Reilly had Rivera come on his show to apologize for the comment, but Malkin felt that the apology was staged and was insincere. She has refused to appear on the O'Reilly show ever since.

You may not trust the author, but those were quotes. That means the article was sourced.

Quotes without attribution are meaningless. Here, hold my beer and watch this:

"map beats his wife" so said an unnamed source with intimate knowledge of his marriage, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Since I'm the author, citing an unnamed / unattributed source and I'm quoting someone, that's true isn't it?

Of course it's not.

The quotes in the LA Times article are direct and attributed. Read the article and see for yourself.

Your example is correct but doesn't apply in this case. You either didn't read or didn't understand the article. Try it again.

That’s not the incident I was talking about. I specifically saw O’Reilly take up for Obama when she was badmouthing Obama. But it’s nice to know there other incidents. He also shuts up Monica Crowley when she badmouths Obama. She should also refuse to go on his show.
