The quotes in the LA Times article are direct and attributed. Read the article and see for yourself.

Your example is correct but doesn't apply in this case. You either didn't read or didn't understand the article. Try it again.

You're correct, I had to click through to the original LA Times story to see the attribution. I read the Gateway Pundit article which didn't have full attribution.

Now that I think of it, I remember reading the original LA Times story back in August, seem to recall it being posted here on FR right about that time too.
