Cruz challenges Trump to one-on-one debate [at the Mark Levin show]

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says if rival Donald Trump won't face the entire GOP field in Thursday's Fox News debate, then he wants to go one-on-one.

"If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly, I would like to invite him on your show to participate in a one-on-one debate between me and Donald, mano y mano," Cruz said during an interview on "The Mark Levin Show," adding that Trump could choose the moderator.

"And the fact that Donald is now afraid to appear on the debate stage, that he doesn't want his record questioned, I think that reflects a lack of respect for the men and women of Iowa, that he's unwilling to go to Des Moines and be questioned."

Cruz also argued that Trump dropping out of the debate shows that the front-runner isn't qualified to be president.

"This is a job interview, you need to be willing to answer the questions of the American people, and if Donald is afraid to defend his record, that speaks volumes," he said.

"And if he thinks Megyn Kelly is so scary, what exactly does he think he'd do with Vladimir Putin? I promise you Putin is a lot scarier than Megyn Kelly."

Cruz added that Trump needs to explain to voters "how he is prepared to be commander-in-chief if he's terrified of a television host."

The comments came shortly after the Trump campaign announced Tuesday that he would not participate in the Fox News debate on Thursday.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Trump referred to Kelly as "lightweight" and said that she's "not a reporter."

“Yes, that is because you are backing yet another lawyer, trained in debating, who has been nothing but a lawyer and a politician, both glib of tongue”

There is some truth in that. There is a lot more to being a President than winning some debate. Trump has a ton of executive experience and will get things done instead of debating about what to do. GO TRUMP GO

Hmm, Constitutionalist vs Celebrity

A real tough choice.

BTW, the last sentence on your homepage needs to be taken down if you vote for Trump.

My main intent is to see all liberals defeated in elections, replaced by conservatives.

“Trump is taking a stand against biased and unprofessional debate moderators”

“debate moderator”??

You are falling for the spin. It is the network he is battling.

I regret not recalling Henry Ford’s remarks to the court that attempted to humiliate him for lack of intelligence.

Don’t get me wrong, I respect both Levin and Cruz, but this challenge has the stench of unflattering hubris.

That’s all Cruz is...a debater. Not a doer. Literally Cruz was a national college debating champion. And yet he couldn’t even beat Trump in the last one. Trump left him speechless in the most electric exchange of the night. Let’s face it. Ted Cruz is an intelligent and talented man. But not a president.

...Cruz is a constitutional genius.

It's true.   When it comes to the Constitution, he's a natural born genius.

RE: who has accomplished nothing in his political career as a Senator other than shutting down gov’t, at great expense to the taxpayers, while accomplishing nothing.

There used to be a time when Freepers were in full support of the shutdown strategy in order to push the conservative agenda through instead of compromising with the Democrats.

Now I see a lot of FReepers supporting the Mitch McConnell/John Boehner Compromise to avoid a shutdown policy.

I can understand why the establishment like Dole are flocking to Trump.

The fact that just today, Trump tells us that he will have a close, good working relationship with Pelosi, Reid and Schumer tells us everything we know.

Really? Where?

I thought Cruz was right about “New York Values” and Trump was attacking a strawman,

Nice try ... Levin blew his chance, just like Cruz, by deviously attacking Trump , now they are desperate for Trump’s attention ... too late

With Trump there is always another shoe to drop after he makes these over the top decisions. 24 hours pass and he always comes out on top. I have never seen anyone slap b*tches like Thee Donald does. ;)
Go Trump

You stick with yet another lawyer who has accomplished nothing in his political career as a Senator other than shutting down gov’t, at great expense to the taxpayers, while accomplishing nothing.

I would bet that when Cruz was hanging firm on the shutdown you were behind him 100% as were nearly all the Freepers on this forum.

Now when he is running against Trump, suddenly Cruz's efforts to control the size of government are considered evil or wasteful.

In reality Trump has no intention of reducing the size of government. Trump supported McConnell and opposed all the Tea Party candidates.

Other than condemning a lot of property to build his Real Estate Empire, what has Trump "accomplished"? What did his donations to the Clinton's buy? What did his donations to McConnell and Pelosi and Reid buy him?

RE: he’s not a fool and refuses to walk into a trap ... the art of war .. read it

I’m trying to understand Trump’s “Sun Tzu” strategy (if we can call it that ).

The RealClearPolitics National Average has Trump at about 36%. It’s been at or near that number for months.

This tells us that 64% of Republicans are either UNDECIDED or for another candidate.

I’m not sure that boycotting the debate will do any favors for Trump for the 64% strategy-wise.

If Trump polled consistently above 50%, I’d call it a good strategy. This one is questionable.
