After Trump Drops Out of Debate, Cruz Challenges Him to a ‘Mano a Mano‘

As news spread of Donald Trump's intention to boycott the Republican debate this Thursday, Ted Cruz's national press secretary tweeted out that the Texas senator wished to challenge the GOP frontrunner to a "mano a mano."

Cruz made the remarks to Mark Levin on his radio show Tuesday night. "If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly," Cruz said, "I would like to invite him... to participate in a one-on-one debate, between me and Donald, mano a mano."

Cruz made the remarks to Mark Levin on his radio show Tuesday night. "If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly," Cruz said, "I would like to invite him... to participate in a one-on-one debate, between me and Donald, mano a mano."

Cruz floated Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh as possible moderators -- but he also said he'd be willing to take him on with no moderator at all, should Trump prove to be afraid of all those people too.

He pondered how Trump could be commander-in-chief if he was "terrified of a TV host."

Cruz has been doing that since the beginning. He should just shut up and debate. Is he scared of Rubio? Rubio handed him his lunch in the last debate. He should be worried.

Ted had his chance to rebut Rubio and blew it with his drawn out slow style.

Ah, yes, but as of right now that 70% is spread out and Trump will roll through the states. Chess and checkers...again.

You are exactly right ...Cruz rode Trump’s coattails all the way up , even adopting some of Trump’s positions ! ..the ride is over

Its all part of the Art of the Deal. Dont think for a moment Fox isnt playing along. 12 hours before debate, they come to an agreement Trump flies in on his 757, does the debate, Fox gets 30 million viewers.

I do not agree with that. What would be a face-saving solution for both. There is none.

There is something about Cruz that makes my skin crawl ...

Intelligence? Do math books also give you a skin condition?

Last fall I was talking with two of my very well paid libertarian leaning, low information colleagues about Cruz vs other candidates. They both said that Cruz creeped them out, like he was a snake.... one said he was like a car salesman too. Another colleague who is extremely religious said he thought Cruz was like a televangelist...he was planning to vote for Ben Carson at the time.

These three people were from 3 different states. Cruz doesn’t seem like a likeable guy to me and lots of other people.

That’s a bit of a stretch, don’t you think? Cruz is “desperate” for challenging Trump to a real debate mano a mano?

It would give Trump a chance to demonstrate - finally - his amazing command of matters of foreign affairs, national security, the constitution, etc.

Who’s dominating the news cycle for the next 48 hours thereby sucking the oxygen out of the room again.

If Kelly had treated him like she did Trump, I would be going after Kelly, no Ted.

-- the establishment was betting on trying to take Trump out in this debate --

Same as all the others. I don't think that was the issue. The press, FoxNews in particular, took the "childish insult" aspect and elevated it over the truly important. Enough already. Get out of there.

Joel Osteen. They have the exact same way of speaking.

They aren’t allowed to do this because the other candidates would want equal time.

They can get equal time before or after the Cruz vs. Trump main event.
