The Republican establishment hates Ted Cruz - but it may have to settle for him
Telegraph ^ | January 25, 2016 | Matt K. Lewis, author “Too Dumb to Fail:How the GOP Won Elections by Sacrificing Its Ideas"

With voting in Iowa a week away, there is panic in Washington DC over what looks like the need to choose between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz

In the good old days, we used to sit by the fire and complain about the liberal Republican establishment that favoured moderates like Gerald Ford over conservative heroes like Ronald Reagan.

We live in much more complex times now. Today, as fears grow that we might have to make a binary choice between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, it is becoming clear that this is really a tale of two establishments.

Facing what Washington DC journalist David Drucker describes as a "Sophie's choice" - except Sophie loved her kids and this is a lesser of two evils situation - modern establishmentarians are forced to side with an ally they never thought they'd encounter.

In this case, we are witnessing "Republican establishment" members siding with Donald Trump and "conservative establishment" members - some of whom have lived in Washington DC for decades and have amassed millions of dollars by working in the conservative movement and casting themselves as "outsiders" - siding with Cruz....

RE your first link’s, “But when it comes to campaign contributions that are visible, the Donald isn’t swimming with the whales.” Nope, he’s swimming with the Rinos instead. And color co-ordinates with them. Beware orange ‘Republicans.’

I haven’t seen the NR endorsement of Cruz.

Opposing a Lib Populist like Trump doesn’t = supporting Cruz.

Do you have any link to this endorsement of Cruz or are you just blowing smoke out of you butt like your hero does?

Sorry for the confusion. In reply to your question as to why so many on FR are supporting Trump [your quote: “When you share his character flaws, they say it doesn’t matter. When did a person’s character stop mattering to conservatives?”] “It has” been discussed on other sites and related to the term “authoritarianism”.

It is a result of a people reacting to fear (another terrorist massacre) and the rising crime rates all over the nation due to the open border and, and, the current administration’s illegal importing natives of Islamist nations. Anyone sounding like a Marine ordered to take an enemy position will relieve the tension.

The thing is, and you are right about this, Trump knows nothing about honor, courage, and commitment except people must honor him, encourage him by being enablers, and be committed to him (kiss his behind whenever he calls).

Please forgive my comparison to our beloved Marines who are in fact the antithesis of trump in character and reliability when it means being exemplary of the highest love, being willing to lay down their lives for their friends.

Mark Levin has not endorsed anyone either. So, I’m going subconsciously speaking here and observing that Trump supporters know that their choice of candidate is in fact very flawed and are being over-defensive like a child (or adult) who has to sound absolutely positive about a LIE to make them feel better and push down the truth that keeps rearing its head.

Just read another source from non-political thread...

14 Red Flags to Look Out for in a Relationship (for guys)

My reply:

ROTFL...”Using MRI machines, researchers at the University College London found that “feelings of love lead to a suppression of activity in the areas of the brain controlling critical thought. It seems that once we get close to a person, the brain decides the need to assess their character and personality is reduced.”

so that is what is happening to Trump supporters.
