Clinton, Cruz Lead Among Iowa Caucusgoers in WHO-HD, Iowa State University Poll

AMES, Iowa -- As the candidates make their final push across Iowa, many caucus-goers are still trying to decide which candidate they'll support. Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Ted Cruz lead their respective parties, according to a new Iowa State University/WHO-HD Iowa Caucus Poll released Monday. However, there is little room separating them from the next candidate.

On the Democratic side, 47.4 percent of likely caucus-goers surveyed said they support Clinton. That's compared to 45 percent who said they favor Bernie Sanders. This is a significant jump from the first Iowa Caucus Poll in November, in which Sanders came in a distant second at 27.8 percent. Less than 1 percent of those surveyed in this latest poll said they'll caucus for Martin O'Malley.

On the Republican side, 25.8 percent of likely caucus-goers are backing Cruz, while 18.9 percent say they support Donald Trump. Ben Carson came in third (13.4 percent) followed by Marco Rubio (12.3 percent), Rand Paul (6.9 percent), Jeb Bush (3.8 percent), Mike Huckabee (3.7 percent) and Carly Fiorina (1.1 percent). Rick Santorum, Chris Christie and John Kasich registered less than 1 percent....

“Trump probably has more supporters than other Republican candidates overall in Iowa, but if those supporters don’t show up to caucus it just won’t matter. It is not just popularity that wins the caucus; it is turning out your supporters.”

Looks like it is just a matter of who shows up at the caucus sites. This thing could go either way.

Angry and miserable? I’m happier than I’ve ever been. And what’s wrong with fundraising for my preferred candidate?

Dare I say, but If Cruz loses Iowa it will be for 2 reasons, Backsliding Christians and people to easily swayed by MSM polls.

The better poll numbers for Trump that most of the media are running with, are designed to sway people that can not think for themselves.

2012 He gave Romney a letter, hand written by George Washington, because Beck was convinced that Romney was the next George Washington.

Yeah, Beck isn't right.

Hey remember in 2009 when Trump was praising Obama and in 2008 when Trump said that Hillary would make a great president?

Help me out here, a caucus is a meeting. Is this when votes are cast to select a candidate? The primary?

It’s complicated, which means those with a “ground game” usually win.

Apparently Real Clear Politics has never heard of this poll. Here’s a brand new poll from American Research Group, which RCP recognizes. Trump up by 7.

Naturally, it’s all going to be about turnout.

I know, “duh” statement of the year.

But cripplecreek posted something a few days ago indicating that maybe not even all these “Iowans” at the Trump rallies were even from Iowa- and the same held true in other states as well.

We know, from reports, who seems to have the best get out the vote ground game in Iowa. It’s Cruz, and I’m not even sure there is a close second.

I’ll admit I’d have a nice laugh if Donald just rested on the laurel of the polls, figured Iowa was in the bag, and with not much of a ground game doesn’t win the state.

I’ll also admit that if these people at these rallies do come from other states, I wouldn’t put it past “win at all costs Don” to pull an Obama and bring outsiders in to vote.

I have voted in primary elections but I dont recall it being called a caucus.

Is that when they vote in the primary?

Most states have primaries but a few have caucuses. Different things.
