The Nominee We Deserve?
The Weekly Standard ^ | 02-01-2016 | Stephen F. Hayes

Do Republicans deserve to lose? Consider the state of play as we write this in late January, just days from the first GOP nominating contests.

The Republican frontrunner is a longtime liberal whose worldview might best be described as an amalgam of pop-culture progressivism and vulgar nationalism. His campaign rallies are orgies of self-absorption, dominated by juvenile insults of those who criticize him and endless boasting about his poll numbers. He’s a narcissist and a huckster, an opportunist who not only failed to join conservatives in the big fights about the size and scope of government over the past several decades but, to the extent he was even aware of such battles, was often funding the other side, with a long list of contributions to the liberals most responsible for the dire state of affairs in the country, including likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

In short, he's an opposition researcher's dream. But Republicans have spent tens of millions of dollars on political advertising this cycle and virtually none of it has targeted Donald Trump. He is poised to glide into the early-state contests having largely avoided the kind of sustained paid-media attacks that bring down candidates with far fewer vulnerabilities.

In short: Rubio has received the most attention from negative adds and the majority of that comes from "establishment" candidates and PACs.

Its an accurate description of Trump.

But the GOP establishment candidates have spent all their time forming a circular firing squad.

And it hasn’t helped the only conservative in the race - Cruz, has been thrown off balance by slashing attacks from Trump and his own missteps.

It so happens the party wants Trump and will likely have him as its standard-bearer.

That’s the Trumpist motto. To hell with it all, vote Trump.

Steve Hayes is delusional. We do not deserve to hear him repeat his hate in one more column.

The ads don’t mean a damn thing. People don’t even pay attention to them. When the ads are on they go to the toilet or the fridgy.

The hit pieces by Steve and his looney cohorts come all day 24/7 against Trump and this moron still doesn’t get it.

Is he afraid of having to get a real job in 2016?

“The Republican frontrunner is a longtime liberal whose worldview might best be described as an amalgam of pop-culture progressivism and vulgar nationalism.”

That’s rich, coming from the flagship rag for the notcons who have bled this country white for their globalist agendas, while blowing the horn for mindless jingoism against the whole world.

The chipmunk cheeked cheapjack Kristol can burn in sheol now.

The Republican party has never been a conservative party. I’m not sure why so many conservatives can’t figure this out.

You believe Cruz is the best conservative that can win the Presidency. I believe Trump is the best conservative that can win the Presidency.

The French revolution of course.

Vote Trump

Another conservative “purist” telling the rest of us who is, and who is not, conservative enough.

This could prove to be a presidential election that once again proves the irrefutability of Mencken's Law: Democracy---that system of government whereby the common people know what they want and deserve to get it, good and hard.

Just like the last seven.

Clutch your pearls and prepare you fainting couches accordingly.

You might be clutching yours if Trump gets his 45% tariff on Chinese goods. You might want to look up how the Smoot-Harley tariffs during the Great Depression reduced imports and exports by 65%.

It’d be interesting to see the data on this. It may be on the second, etc. page, but the site requires scripts to get there.

This was a real gut-buster:

” He is poised to glide into the early-state contests having largely avoided the kind of sustained paid-media attacks that bring down candidates with far fewer vulnerabilities.”

The guy that had rape rumors floated around? Called every name in the book by the media? Had a cartel gangster call out a hit on him, a Arab bigwig denounce him, a president devote part the the SOTU address to him, and a parliament debate banning him?

This guy that “largely avoided the kind of sustained paid-media attacks”? He doesn’t avoid them, it’s his coffee!

Another “I Hate Trump” blast. Is it any surprise that the Weekly Standard has William Kristol as its editor, and that Kristol contributed to the Against Trump hate-fest of the National Review?

Why don’t all these people just get together and form Neocons Against Trump, and stop pretending that they are oh so concerned about losing the 2016 election. They are only concerned about Trump attacks on the media, and the fact that he doesn’t need to come crawling to them for money.
