Sanders Makes a Rare Pitch: More Taxes for More Government
New York Times ^

Posted on 01/22/2016 11:50:42 AM PST by bryan999

Senator Bernie Sanders’s health care plan is advancing a notion that has long been out of fashion in American politics: that the federal government should provide a new, expensive service to most Americans, and that it should levy significantly higher taxes on most Americans to provide that service.

He is proposing a health care plan that would require over a trillion dollars a year in new, broad-based taxes applying to nearly all Americans who work. His main opponent, Hillary Clinton, has reiterated President Barack Obama’s pledge not to raise taxes even on many affluent families, setting her cutoff for tax increases at $250,000.

His campaign estimates that his plan to cover all Americans with a zero-deductible, zero-co-pay health plan will add $1.38 trillion a year to government spending. There are reasons to think that estimate is optimistically low, but even if it’s correct it’s still a lot of money: Paying for it would require increasing federal tax receipts by about a third, and Mr. Sanders has a plan to do so.

According to revenue estimates provided by the campaign, $238 billion of his new revenues would come from taxes focused specifically on people making more than $250,000 a year or inheriting estates larger than $3.5 million.

It is unfathomable to me why anyone in their right mind would actually vote for higher taxes...???

Some of my middle class moonbat family members and friends who support this socialist doof are finally justifying higher taxes to themselves.

There was a time when even Democrats would campaign on a platform of cutting or at least not raising taxes.

This is the complete reverse. Sanders is touting higher taxes and the idiots who are supporting him are eating that up.

WHY ?????

Since 70% of income taxes are paid by the top 10% of earners, and 84% by the top 20%, it actually is a very appealing political strategy.

The a$$-clown Sanders doesn’t realize he won’t get more revenue anyway. His “rich” will simply hide it, cut deals with their insider cronies in government to make tax-deductions for some government PC scam, or simply take it elsewhere.

Then it will simply be about printing more fake, manipulated Federal Reserve notes to cover the ballooning US debt.

Sanders is a neanderthal, espousing a old, 19th Century ideology, that has failed more spectacularly and miserably than any ideology in the history of mankind. Its a sad commentary on the USA he’s getting any attention at all.

At some point that will run out of people to tax. But for some reason that simple fact eludes them.

Let's see, more government control over your life in exchange for getting to pay higher taxes?

Only in the world of Bernie Sanders ( ☭ ).

Even if it’s “free” via higher taxes paid by someone else, it still means bigger government which translates into more government control.

Maybe it could be modeled after Social Security, considering what a success that is.

All of the heavy duty socialist countries are failures, does America happen to be the exception that would succeed?

Isn't it something like 47% who pay no taxes at all? Or actually get a net gain from things like the EIC?

Romney was right about this crowd.

And it isn't hard to pick up the remaining 4% from the jag-offs who may pay a token amount of taxes but still benefit from this situation. Like Warren Buffett.

WHY ?????

In all seriousness, the fact that Bernie Sanders is polling above 1% proves that even the Democrats are desperate to vote for someone other than Hillary.

Great plan, Dimmies.

Free healthcare, free college, and leave the borders wide open for anyone to come in and help themselves.

Better hurry, this deal can't last long.

Exactly.

That’s how masterminds Axlegrease and Plouffy were able to re-elect Baraq with 8% unemployment (13% actual), surging food prices, $4 gasoline, trillion dollar deficits, and Benghazi.

Dispense enough gravy to the right people. The regime added 25 million people to the food stamp roles among other things.

Anyone voting for him knows what they are getting.

Sanders isn’t content with merely having all of the power like the Hitlerbeast is, he wants everyone to truly believe the tenets of Bolshevism and be ardent defenders of those execrable beliefs. In many ways, he is more dangerous than the Hitlerbeast.

Only bigger and bigger government with higher and higher taxes and more and more regulations can save us!

the best. political ad. ever.

For Trump. Raise your hand if you want a 33% increase in your taxes to pay for illegals and refugees....

“They’ve all come to look for America” and found a huge, expensive and inefficient bureaucracy....

Brazenly honest socialist. Nobody is surprised a socialist would be for more taxes and bigger government.

I just can’t believe how many people are actually falling for this... All ages, too.. it’s not just dumb millennials.

I think it all simply stems from deeply outed hatred for people who have more money. AKA “the rich”.

Libs would rather run this country into the ground than vote for a conservative. SICK!

If the polls are right, Democrats want Sanders Claus FREE stuff.

And they’re willing to vote for the communist to get it.

We don’t live in the America where tax and spend belonged to the kook fringe.

Its called Medicaid, stupid.

I happen to enjoy a zero-deductible small co-pay health plan already.

Of course whether every one else should be folded in, is for the American people to decide.
