not, he was not just a cop but the chief. try again
I very much suspect that’s the reason for that law — because a potential assassin could show up with a bogus uniform and a gun. This has absolutely nothing to do with Trump himself, but it’s sure to be his fault in 3...2....1...
Trump is no Obama.
We- the Trump chumps, aren't the low information voter zombies that you and your pal libbylu think we are.
2016 isn't 2008.
—Secret service has a right to control its own security detail and impose conditions on the audience.
Only people have rights. The US Secret Service has policies.
The police chief did the right thing in leaving, but assumed incorrectly that a candidate controls secret service polices.
No. They always leave them behind in the hotel room.
I’ve seen this happen in person before.. Only it was the county sheriff, and he showed his credentials at the metal detector. Secret Service then intercepted him inside and quietly ‘checked’ his gun into their hands before Bill Clinton arrived.
Pretty insulting for the leader of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department.
Do you know both parties?
Does not matter, he was not cleared by security to be armed near a Presidential candidate. And he KNEW the policies. So sorry but he does not get a pass for being a cop in a high security setting like that.
Sorry, already been down this road with a friend that is a retired cop that actually worked a couple occasions a president spoke, both in uniform and out and all the local cops wore weapons. This was just blustering by either the SS or Trumps people.
In addition he also was around presidential relatives that came to town on mulitple times, flying in on AF2 as well as other government aircraft.
Give it up. Unless you can show the cop here had been cleared and posed no threat at all in any way you have no grounds to stand on, just attacking the SS for following SOP Security procedure in today’s world.
I agree, was just using shorthand. Much easier than "The Secret Service has the power to exclude people from exercising their right to be armed in a venue where it is protecting a candidate or official."
nope
The truth?! Yep, big piece missing and I’m guessing he’s not a fan of Trump. Making the passive/aggressive comments regarding Trump’s position, gives it all away.
Are people drinking some special potion or something? I can’t believe how many posters are falling face first for all the latest GOPe talking points. The establishment is all in for Trump?! How does any rational person buy this line of tripe?!
I agree.
His job was to be the dead mouse in the peanut butter.
Perhaps the cop was aware that some have declared open season on killing cops. Maybe he needed the gun for his own safety.
Candidates and politicians aren’t the only ones who may need armed protection.
Agreed: Trump is a buffoon.
It said right in the article he was on duty but took a lunch break.
(I have no idea if this fact means anything.)
.
I had the opportunity to see some of the SS operations way back in the 80’s with then Vice President Bush when he was campaigning on the road. Enough firepower to overthrow half of the U.N. That was just in one hotel room.
It was not a cop issue, it was an uncleared armed person wearing a police uniform issue.
Whats to stop Assassins from putting on a police uniform to get up close with weapons? See history...
Please note, he could have stayed and retrieved the gun later.
