Will Smith will be joining his wife Jada Pinkett Smith in boycotting the 88th Academy Awards over this year’s all-white acting nominees, the actor said on Thursday’s Good Morning America on ABC.
“My wife’s not going. It would be awkward for me to show up with Charlize [Theron],†Smith joked to Robin Roberts. “No, we’ve discussed it, and we’re a part of this community, but at this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say this is okay.â€
Pinkett Smith posted a video online last Sunday, in which she lamented the treatment of black actors in entertainment.
“Maybe it is time that we pull back our resources, and we put them back into our communities, into our programs, and we make programs for ourselves that acknowledge us in ways that we see fit that are just as good as the so-called mainstream ones,†she said.
The actress’s statement came following an announcement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) that all 20 Oscar nominations in the four major acting categories had gone to white actors for the second consecutive year.
Smith, who many believed would pick up a nomination this year for his role in Concussion, was among those left off the ballot.

Check your theaters and go see 13 hours, about Benghazi by guys who were there. I just saw The Big Short, about the financial crisis with the mortgages in 2008, which you might like. There are still some good movies.

Yeah, as another Freeper has said, Jeb is a tall, handsome guy from a rich, powerful family in a state known for its tall, gorgeous blondes and he's such a dork that he married a dwarf from Mexico.
IOW, Jada ordered him not to attend.
He should go with his kids to add diversity to the audience. Besides, there’s a camera or two there that could give them more face time. Or can Jaden not find a fancy enough dress at this late date?

I wonder...will the people boycotting the awards resign their memberships, and stop paying their dues to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? Why belong to, and continue to pay money to an organization you claim isn’t honoring racial diversity?
Sometimes we are drawn to those who personify the way we think of ourselves. They become our living, breathing ‘Alter Ego’. I think Jeb has always felt a sense of ‘not belonging’, not quite fitting into’ his family.
Even though his family loves him, and Jeb remains close, I speculate that the pressures to excel and to remain in a state of excellence are strong and continuous. Think of how wealthy and deeply influential members of the Bush Family have been on American politics, starting with Prescott S. Bush, the father of GHWB.
I won’t notice. I’ve been boycotting the Oscars for nearly 3 decades.
