DoD bases no longer accepting driver's licenses from 5 states as ID

Defense Department bases no longer will accept driver’s licenses from five states as proof of ID -- a consequence of the implementation of a controversial post-9/11 law.

The decision, which affects residents of Minnesota, Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico and Washington, was announced Wednesday. Residents from those five states, going forward, will need another form of ID such as a passport to enter.

The move marks one of the first big changes after the government started to implement a 2005 security law known as the REAL ID Act. The legislation was meant to tighten standards for government-issued IDs – like driver’s licenses – and banned federal agencies from accepting IDs that don’t measure up.

Can the other states sue California for voter fraud?

I’m sure they accept other forms of ID in those states; for instances a passport, military ID etc. Just another headache.

That’s going to be what already is a huge PITA a bigger PITA for small business contractors. Just think about showing up on Monday morning with a crew of 10 roofers only to figure out that the only ID they have is a State issued driver’s license. Better yet, be a union shop and have to pay all 10 for half or a full day for showing up but doing any work.

When did we start needing ID’s to go from one state to another?

I recently read something about enforcement of this nonsense being pushed back two years, at least at airports. Don’t know if the postponement will reach beyond TSA.

The solution is simple , when drivers with those licenses are pulled over for a violation on a Interstate Highway outside the state the license was issued from hit them with driving without a valid license in addition to the primary violation. Those states will comply quickly.

This applies only to entering military bases. This does not apply to interstate travel.

Yes the TSA for air travel postponed it til 2018. I was notified yesterday that they are enforcing the REALID at a military base in Maryland though. It is punishment to the states that will not follow lord Jeh Johnson and his majesty Ubama. They want the military bases to feel the pain. They are probably laughing their rear ends off that they get to stick it to the military bases like when they closed the WWII open air monument during the government shutdown.

10 states give drivers licenses to illegals. California wasn’t the first.

California made the right to vote part of the driver's license ... THAT is new (about two months ago) and that is unique

We're talkin' REAL motor voter ... not just registration, but the legal ability to cast a vote !

Someone posted earlier and asked, "Can we sue California for voter fraud?"

I admit ... that is a delicious and interesting query

Considering the Lack of security at Military bases even with Military ID, is practically non-existent. This is a silly closing the barn door after the horse has gotten out thing. Contractors who work on Military bases are given a special ID pass. But they are still stopped at the gate and spoken to. And pass through an xray machine.

Now all they do is take a scanner to your Military ID card, Base front gate is closed on weekends except to Active Duty who have a pass code that will open the gates with their swiping of their Military ID.

Retired Seniors have to use the back gate, that is manned usually with a Rent a Cop with a scanner. You might be asked if you have a weapon, depends on the guard you get. Military guards are more likely to ask that question. I can’t speak for all bases, just the Millington, TN Naval Base...BUPERS. Security stinks. Oh, they have those tire puncture things and make you weave around crash barriers, but the guards only carry side arms. It is very rare to see a M16 on a Active Duty Guard. All the Rent a Cops have are side arms.

If all you have is a DL, you must go to the Pass office with your DD214 in order to get even a temp pass. But that office is just inside the main gate.

Military ID’s can be used at any base. They also act as your secondary insurance card for the Retired.

This article has nothing to do with voting. It’s about using DL for ID. Illegal’s licenses in CA are marked different.

I have no problems with illegals getting drivers licenses as long as they are forced to drive south to Mexico and have to enter the Mexican border
