I think The GOPe was willing to hold it’s collective nose and and accept Trump as their lesser evil over Cruz and then their worst nightmare situation happened with Palin endorsing Trump.

I think they'll choose Bush or Rubio...And finagle a brokered convention.
Or, as another FReeper said, they'll broker the convention and select Bob Dole on the 68th ballot.
To: cotton1706
Why choose now? Some are saying they'd accept Trump as the nominee (bowing to the inevitable). If Cruz wallops Trump, they'll say they'd accept him.
I suspect in their heart of hearts most of the Establishment is hoping one of them will blunder and leave the way open to another candidate.
There may be some fear that even if somebody like Rubio gets the nomination, what's going on now will have so shaken the party that will be hard for the GOP to steady itself enough to win.

Cruz is cooked. Winning the nomination requires a majority of convention delegates. By alienating the establishment and Trumpers both, he’s set an insurmountable bar for himself because he won’t be able to round up enough delegates at the convention using just his own. Primaries almost all proportionately allocate their delegates now, and so Cruz has boxed himself in.

Cruz may well have boxed himself out of the nomination. However I hope that both he and Trump continue to stay in the race and keep the GOPe establishment candidates far behind.
As soon as either Cruz or Trump falls, suddenly we will have a Jebbie Bush or Marco Rubio to contend with in the number 2 spot.
I'd much rather keep them at a distance as long as possible.

The GOPe has worked it’s way through the five stages of grief and arrived at #5, Acceptance. Trump will be the nominee, and he’ll clean either Hillary or Bernie’s clock. Time to get on board or watch the train leave the station.

I believe the GOPe is trying to move co-opt the whole primary by subtly “endorsing” Trump and thereby make Trump less anti-establishment in the process and diminish Cruz in the process.

You don’t know what you are talking about. The Establishment is using Cruz as a battering ram to take down Trump. Then they will gut Cruz and replace him with Bush or some other pawn. Republicans are clueless, and thankfully Trump is not a Republican. He is a real American. That used to mean the same thing.
To: cotton1706
I have a feeling that Trump isn’t going to be controlled by anybody unless he can darn well get some leverage out of it.
