A Texas woman, wanting to give a homeless guy some reprieve from the cold and a warm place to rest, invited him in to stay the night in her spare bedroom.

The 66-year-old woman, whose name was not released, lives alone with her two granddaughters in Houston. With a spare bedroom and a big heart, she offered the space to Thomas Smith, who had no place else to go. Everyone in the house had turned in for the night, or so the woman thought, when she was woken up by what Smith was doing, just after 1:30 a.m.
According to KPRC, Smith said he heard a "big old boom," which startled him out of bed, but it apparently didn't wake the woman and her granddaughters. Smith assumed someone was trying to break in the home, but he soon found that was not the case. As he opened the door to the homeowner's bedroom, he saw what was on top of her and acted fast.
Smoke was filling up the house as an explosion in the attic caused the place to go up in flames. The caring grandmother was still in her bed, but she was covered by sheet rock that had broken free and fallen on her, after the boom. Smith rushed to clear the debris off her and pulled her out of the bed and her house to seek safety, but the girls were still stuck inside.
The heroic homeless man braved the burning temperatures and potential of suffering smoke inhalation to go back inside the house to rescue the 8 and 10-year-old girls from their beds. With the children in his arms, he bravely marched out of the front door, reuniting the girls with their grandma.

LOL
Same here, I thought Thomas Smith did something very evil to the elderly but NOPE. Sure caught me in surprise.
I thought this was another horror story too. So glad it wasn’t!
“HFD is investigating the cause of the fire, but said it appears to be electrical in nature and may have started in the laundry room.”
They suspect that was a cause
I would imagine a few sermons on Sunday that work this one in.
Ok, I am having a hard time with this statement. How does one live alone with someone else?
******************************************************
Well, I thought to myself......
Wait a minute, is there any other way to think than to oneself? After all, if you say it out loud, it’s called talking.
What was the question again?
....and taking names like a Boss
Nice story, but this is an odd statement: lives alone with her two granddaughters
Indeed a touching story.
Nonetheless, many homeless are that way for a reason that makes them less suitable to just invite into your home and turn out the lights.
Personally, I will never do it unless I know the person.
Nothing about the man being homeless in that story. In that story the guy was “Living with a friend”.
Wow! Praise God.
The local homeless where I live would’ve just left her there.
What caused the explosion in the attic?////His meth lab? I dunno.
Precisely.
I truly believe this incident was put forth by the hand of God. But.... Am I the only one here that thinks; an elderly woman letting a homeless man sleep in your house with small girls is a very bad idea?
Much better than talking without thinking. I do that occasionally, sorry to say.
Awww. You beat me.
“What caused the explosion in the attic?”
Most homes in Houston are heated by a natural gas furnace in the attic. I guess there was a gas leak that ignited.
Can somebody explain this to me, or is this just another example of 2015 journalism?
Heh, you never know who might be the Holy Man...
