Florida Sheriff Grady Judd is urging residents in his county to arm up, stressing that it is "more important to have a gun in your hand than a cop on the phone."
Judd is Sheriff of Polk County.
According to Fox News, "Judd believes guns allow citizens to defend themselves when police cannot." Moreover, he wants criminals to know that citizens in his county will defend themselves.
Following an incident where a home invasion suspect was shot earlier this month, Judd said, "If you are foolish enough to break into someone's home, you can expect to be shot in Polk County."
Detroit Police Chief James Craig has spent the past two years pushing for citizens in his city to arm themselves for self-defense, and Maricopa Sheriff Joe Arpario led the charge for citizens in Arizona to carry guns more frequently following the a number of high profile shootings across the country in 2015. And following the December 2 San Bernardino terror attack, Arpiao told Breitbart News that armed citizens can take out the bad guys "before the cops arrive."
In addition to Craig, Arpaio-and now, Judd-Police Chief Randy Kennedy (Hughes Springs, TX), Sheriff David Cole (Steuben County, NY,), Sheriff Michael A. Helmig (Boone County, KY), Sheriff Paul J. Van Blarcum (Ulster County, NY), and Sheriff Wayne Ivey (Brevard County, FL), have all urged residents with concealed carry permits to carry guns daily to stave off crime and terrorism.

I love the two New York Sheriffs on that list, and I predict the list will grow significantly as the year goes forward (As Obama and the progressives like to say).
Is this the same Sheriff, when asked by pointy headed reporters why officers had shot a cop killer over a hundred times, responded “I guess they ran out of bullets” ?
Local sheriff of a town just down the road from us said basically the same thing - we’re few and it’ll take time to get to you.

Can you still buy a gun for self defense in New York?
According to Hannity (he has several guns including AR-15, as well as, concealed carry) you can, but it is very hard to get approved. If I remember correctly he said it took him 5 years to get approved.
I appreciate the sheriff’s words but I have to wonder if they’re do this to avoid doing their jobs. Just there to clean up the mess afterwards.
The valley I live in is part of a fairly large county.
We only have 1 deputy 5 days a week.
On the other 2 days of the week, we have NO DEPUTY.
Obama can try to take our guns-—let him try-—in person. We would all love that.
Breitbart should know better. They are national. Polk county? In what freaking state.

When we first moved here in 2005, I was getting an oil change one morning and was watching TV in the waiting room with an older black couple.
Sheriff Judd came on the news and announced that they were searching for two criminals that had killed a convenience store clerk during a robbery. He ended the interview with these words to the camera, "To the two men that did this, rest assured we will find you."
The older man then said, "Those fools better give themselves up as soon as they can. They've pissed of Sheriff Grady and that is not something you do in this county."
On the evening news that night, it was reported that the gunmen were in custody having turned themselves in to Polk County deputies.

Speaking from experience after we had our car stolen, Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk County, Florida has his deputies in top shape and they are tenacious and courteous in their duties.
Cops have always just been there to clean up and do the paperwork. Here in the West it is often a long drive for calls. Here in Nevada we have counties that are bigger than most states. LOE’S deploy to problem areas and could take hours to get to some calls.
