... given that Apple has the highest margins per worker in the US economy, Apple is the most oppressive employer in the country in that Marxist sense...
... the American left is at least Marxian, informed by Marxâs analysis, even if not full on Marxist. And yet they complain and whine bitterly about retail, Walmart and the rest, and delight in the coolness of the products from Apple. Yet Walmart extracts less of that surplus value from its labour force than Apple does: meaning that in that Marxist sense, Walmart is a better employer than Apple...

Apple is an original equipment manufacturer. However, they outsource their manufacturing and the workforce that makes their products are not their direct employees. Therefore they make a much greater profit from having a smaller payroll of primarily techies. And like apples, each year they come out with a new crop of products,
Wal-Mart is a reseller, like eunuchs, they produce nothing no products, just buy and resell, and with many direct employees they are operating on a much smaller profit margin.
Other than both being excellent business models in their respective businesses, they bear as much similarity as comparing General Electric and a grocery store chain.
This article makes no sense other than being an anti-capitalism piece which could have been written by Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren or Obama himself. If he could have an original thought aside from a teleprompter.
no problemo! (catch that spanish lingo?)
This should have tipped me off, I’ll admit.
“They do not exploit American workers by placing their factories here.”
Yes, I do now. (lingo)
What’s the difference in cost of an Apple fail vs a Walmart fail. Billions I would think.
You say it the way it needs to be said.
That’s an apples to oranges comparison.
Look at other tech names and you will see similar numbers.
Apple advertises on my devices that I have 5G of FREE storage on the iCloud. Husband paid for 50 G of space on the cloud. Immediately upon paying, it says we have 45G left. So that 5G isn’t free anymore, I guess. What a scummy company.
I guess my only complaint against the is the smart phone. There is absolutley no other device that costs employers more money in lost time than smart phones. My wife ownsa company that employs 5 gals and it is a constant battle to keep them off the damn things. If they aren’t talking they are on social media, or texting or surfing.
And of course there are parents that think their kids have a right to cell phones in scool.
Not to mention how many lives texting and talking while driving costs America.
BUT, i guess if Apple did not perfect the smart phone somebody else would have.
If you listen to some of our Apple Fanboys on this forum they work for free.
I have socks older than my children
One of my liberal clients gave me a $100 gift card from Amazon. Used it to restock stuff in my Obama food closet. Client was amazed that I would even consider spending money on such “tinfoil hat” items. Just laughed at him.
Yep..... agree !
Apple has the dream set-up for profitability: Good products and an extremely loyal customer base that is willing to pay high prices. High volume at high prices equals high profits.
What I would suggest to your wife, is that she install a great locker system for these ladies. Sell it as their own private space way from home.
Then stipulate that’s where the phones go from 8:00 to 12:00, and from 1:00 to 5:00.
If this isn’t satisfactory, they are free to go some place where they are allowed to use them during work time.
Give the kids the work number and only allow them to contact their moms for a genuine emergency. Everything else has to be done during lunch or planned the day before.
As for the phones, they are the culmination of the combining of a myriad of technologies into the most amazing product in human history.
Everything discovered from Bell to Captain Kirk is incorporated into them. (well pretty close)
It is a shame that something so useful is then denigrated into a negative by people who can’t control themselves or their kids.
Good luck.
It is if you are a labor union.
Yes, that’s true.
Easier said than done so as not to create a ‘sweat shop’ environment, especially after about a six month training period until the are productive.
Since we are no longer in a boom here locally, replacements may be easier to come by so some heads may roll soon.
But Apple is a cool hip company and all the libs use their products.
Believe it or not, it is no business of any Apple employee how much profit Apple "makes off of them".
I’m sure it’s not easy dealing with them.
Those are the problems of the management.
People seem to focus on the plight of the employee, but the management (owner) is always at the mercy of the employees too.
As you mention, training is crucial when you contemplate having to do that all over again, the lost productivity as a person gets up to speed.
All the best to you.
