Hey, Ted Cruz, diss New York and you diss the land of winners
NY Post ^ | 1/15/2016 | Seth Lipsky

Ted Cruz, by my lights, was doing pretty well in this presidential campaign until he started attacking Donald Trump for having "New York values." What in the Statue of Liberty do you figure the tin-eared Texan could've been thinking?

If he was thinking.

Just on the numbers, after all, being a New Yorker is nothing for which any presidential politician needs to apologize. New York has produced more presidents than any other state -- seven out of 43 total. (Yes, Barack Obama is No. 44 -- because Grover Cleveland, an ex-sheriff of Erie County who became mayor of Buffalo and then governor, was both the 22nd and 24th president.)

The list includes three other ex-governors, Franklin and Theodore Roosevelt and Martin Van Buren. Add in the wily Whig, Millard Fillmore, and our one-time port collector, Chester Arthur (who, some insist, was, like Cruz, born in Canada).

To what, if not New York values, does Cruz attribute such electoral success -- the vapors of the Hudson? Could it not be that New York values are actually perceived as a virtue across our glorious land?

It's not entirely clear, either, that The Donald is evincing New York values. He's running a protectionist campaign on trade and immigration. Those planks are about as far from New York values as it's possible to get.

New York's is a capacious and welcoming spirit, symbolized by the Statue of Liberty astride New York Harbor. In rankings of diversity, New York state beats Texas, and New York City tops any major Texas town.

Cruz has lately been grumbling about the neoconservatives (a movement launched largely by New York intellectuals). He lashed out the other day at the "billionaire Republican donors" who "actively despise our base."

Very true. It will be nice to have a strong leader. I am still pissed that Romney lost in 2012.....not because he was great but because Obama was so awful. Oh well. Trump will have a lot of clean up to do but if there is anyone up to the task....it’s him.

Have a good night......must go to bed.

Frankly this whole argument disgusts me. And too many conservatives everywhere are dumbing themselves down to stupid soundbites and headline reading idiocy.
Us rural Americans know what Cruz meant. He meant elitist RINO’s that reside in NY and DC.

Cry and whine all you want people. If you think anything different then you are part of the problem.

Eh, you also diss soda size limits, excessive gun control, ridiculously high taxes, and general nanny-stateness, all of which are valued highly in NYC.

Yea well I’m fed up with piss-ant states like Iowa that are smaller and have less people that some counties in California having such a false place in the presidential election. What a stupid way of choosing a president.

Biff, we’re not talking about values here. I know that’s what you want it to be about, but it isn’t.

It’s about be respectful to a group of people you want to vote for you in November. That doesn’t mean you support their Leftist proclivities. You simply treat them with dignity.

As a politician, you CANNOT signal you don’t appreciate a certain group of people. Saying no Conservatives come out of a certain area, tends to imply “...so I don’t give a damn about those people...”

Look, it’s a mistake. You can’t paper this one over. It’s out there and Ted may pay for it. If not, okay. I’m not holding my breath hoping he will.

He’s not my guy. I’m simply addressing this on an academic level.

Take care.

Even Southern Californians know what he meant and he was right - New York Values are not conservative values. They just aren’t. He didn’t say NO conservatives come out of manhattan, he said not many do.

That isn’t entirely true. The people voted for the libs - but, they sure didn’t vote for the policies the mayors put through.I’ve met many wonderful people from NY, great people - yes, they can be brash - but, I found they would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it.

There IS a GOP presidential primary in N.Y. and Cruz will LOSE it BIG TIME and yes, he once had some supporters there.

It is also where Washington took his oath of office, on a Bible that belonged to a NYC Masonic Lodge!

This isn’t my cup of tea.

I don’t like to see a guy get kicked out for something like this.

Regular issues are what I care about. I didn’t care for his politics, because I never saw him the way others did. He was a slippery guy to me.

So this present NY thing is costing him, but it was his slipperiness that counted more to me.

That’s not to say that I don’t think he blew it, because I think he did. We’ll see if it costs him.

Sounds like you’re pretty sure his ground game in NY just went sub terra-forma. LOL

You are misquoting Trump, by chopping off that sentence in the middle. Shame on YOU, libbylu; bless your heart.

There is NO WAY that Hillary wouldn't eat Ted's lunch in 10 minutes flat, if he ever got to debate her.

Cruz's debate skills have been greatly exaggerated.
