Cruz and Christie Gain in Popularity As Trump, Carson and Bush Stumble (POLL)
ABC News ^ | Jan 13, 2016, 7:00 AM ET | GARY LANGER and GREGORY HOLYK

Ted Cruz has reached top-rank popularity among Republicans and Chris Christie’s favorability rating is most improved in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, while Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Jeb Bush all have stumbled in the battle for GOP hearts and minds.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton continues to far surpass Bernie Sanders in favorability among party regulars, and she’s vastly more popular within the Democratic Party than are any of the Republican candidates within the GOP base. Still, gender and racial gaps mark Clinton’s standings, and Sanders pushes back among young adults, independents and the better-off.

Movement is greatest among Republicans. Trump’s favorability rating within the GOP has dropped by 12 percentage points, from a high of 69 percent in November to 57 percent now; the decline has occurred almost exclusively among Republican women. Cruz, +7 points to 60 percent favorable, is +13 points among strong conservatives overall, a core GOP group; 76 percent now rate him favorably.

What? They don’t like the results of who would you vote for so they go to favorability? The good news is this is future upside for Trump.

Cruz consistently has very high favorability, Trump on the other hand has consistently high unlikeability. Trump has hit his ceiling weeks ago, and he also loses to Hillary head to head.

Unscientific, anecdotal, confirmation bias time:

Among my wide circle of Republican friends, not a single woman is voting for Trump. There are a handful of staunch Fiorina voters (though that number continues to drop) and more than a few who continue to adore Carson and Rubio. In fact, I’d say those combined blocks, Rubio and Carson, lead all others among female friends who vote Republican.

High School “favorite” is a popularity contest. President is a competency contest. Trump wins on every issue —Economy, Isis,Immigration, sovereignty, women, minorities. Put zero stock of manufactured “popularity numbers “ by ABC. What a joke.

This " Hillary Clinton continues to far surpass Bernie Sanders in favorability.....

That makes this whole poll suspect.

Purely anecdotal as I know several women that are voting for Trump. Their main concern is safety and security and stopping the invasion.

All they got is lies and incredibly childish versions of the word Trump. It’s sad and pathetic and desperate and yet they think it does the bidding of their candidate. I actually think some of the hacks here are working against Cruz while pretending to be Christian conservative supporters.

If this poll were favorable to Trump you would be shouting it from the housetops.

“Conservative” Trump voters seem a little defensive.
