Turks have been infesting Germany since the 60s.
There’s a joke, you may have heard it.
A Polish soldier encounters a German and a Russian soldier, which does he shoot first?
The German, of course....Business before Pleasure.
I hadn’t heard that one although I have read a number of wry “jokes” from the era.
Here is one. A fishmonger is selling herring (a staple of the East German diet, some claim the entire East Germany stank of fish, because that is what they had to eat). So the fish monger cries out: Herring, so fett wie Goering! [Herring as fat as Goering.] He is arrested, and promises to furthermore not make fun of the high Nazi elite. So he gets out of jail. Next time, he cries out, “Herring, so fett wie letzte Woche!” Herring, as fat as last week’s. HA!
Another joke of the era.
Why are you pouring oil on your flower bed?
So that the guns don’t rust.
There were many many more dry “jokes” of the era, these are only the ones which come easily to mind.
However, those Turks from the 50s, 60s, etc. did learn German, did not choose to live in Muslim ghettos, etc., nothing like today’s No Go Zones in many European cities. The earlier Turk immigrants were nothing at all like the current Muslim influx. They were willing to assimilate to the culture, while retaining some of their own culture. I worked with some of them. They were stubborn, maybe more stubborn than their German employers! HA! But they, that generation, were not a threat to a civilized society; in fact, they chose to assimilate to that civilized society. So sad that example is so very far from what today’s Muslim immigrants intend.
I think much of it arose from the institutionalized self-loathing after the war.
