But the praise is not accidental. Sanders' opposition to the 2007 immigration reform bill and his rhetoric about the effect of immigrant labor on American workers have dismayed immigration activists and liberal allies in the past. He has expressed concern repeatedly over the years that guest workers in the United States depress wages and squeeze Americans out of their jobs.
Sanders opposed comprehensive immigration reform in 2007 on the grounds that it would expand the number of guest workers in the United States. It included a measure that would allow 200,000 guest workers to stay in the country for two years on temporary visas. The bill was widely supported by immigrant rights groups and would have put the undocumented on a path to citizenship.
"If poverty is increasing and if wages are going down, I don’t know why we need millions of people to be coming into this country as guest workers who will work for lower wages than American workers and drive waged down even lower than they are now," Sanders said in a television interview in June 2007.
Joining Sanders in opposing the 2007 bill was the AFL-CIO, the largest coalition of labor unions in the country—as well as staunchly conservative members of Congress like King and advocates like Beck.

Correct. And, as an aside, this is the way the right ought to be framing this subject if it wants to cut into the DNC monopoly on Latino votes.
I happen to own a business that occasionally employs immigrant workers. Of course we do what is required by law to make these men verify their legal status to work in this country. I can assure you and everyone else reading this that these men are more strongly opposed to illegal immigration than anyone you meet. They also side with the right on social issues, like abortion and gay marriage.
However, in an election, those who can vote will probably vote for the Democrat candidate. Why is that? Because most of them do not pay a lot of attention to politics in this country, or even watch English news programs. What they hear about the candidates is that all Republicans hate brown people, because that is the headline when the leading GOP candidate says that rapists are included in the illegals coming into this country and the liberal media repackages this into "Trump says all Mexicans are rapists."
You're right on this issue and we DO need to get the word out to our fellow citizens who happen to be Hispanic. One problem our side has is elites like Jeb who want to pander to what they imagine is the Hispanic position and tell a disturbing and condescending story. Her's another shocker - a lot of Americans who just happen to be Muslim DO NOT want Muslims from Syria flooding the country.
You are correct. I also think that Jeb in particular, but several other prominent Republicans, do the left's job for them when they start talking about having "compassion" for those who are here illegally. This implies that the opposing position compassionate. Because the majority of GOP voters are supporting these uncompassionate candidates, it gives credence to the lie that Republicans in general are not compassionate when it comes to immigration issues. What could be more compassionate than taking the steps to ensure that the legal residents of this country who are most at risk -those who are marginally skilled, not familiar with our culture and lacking a sound grasp of the native tongue -are not undercut by illegals who will do the same job for less pay?

What you're talking about is compassion for honest hard working people who have chosen to become Americans. They're the people WE were when we first got here. You've described the place conservatives must stand. With the innocent and good. Your compassion's well placed.
What liberals do is strange to me... I suspect it's because they never actually know real people in these situations, they tend to stand with the people who hate our country or are criminals OR foreign elites.

Hell no. Sanders wants instant citizenship for the illegals already here. He then wants to give them a “living wage” which means even more illegals pouring over our border to take those jobs. And he wants to give those here reparations for not being paid enough.

"L-word" aside, this is Reagan's brand of Conservatism, and it is mine as well. Kelly asks him if that means he might vote for Hillary Clinton, and he gives a wonderful answer:

I don't have a guy. I have these principles and what I'm trying to accomplish. And what we need, to me, is a candidate that will help change the trajectory of the country from all this wasteful, irresponsible spending that's heading us for a financial cliff -not just by the Democrats but by the Republicans. The reason we tend to support Republicans is they're taking us toward the cliff at only 70 miles per hour miles an hour and the Democrats are taking us 100 miles an hour.
My feeling about Charles Koch is he should keep his wallet in his back pocket and throw his hat in the ring. Both brothers should be running for office or writing books or mentoring young people in college settings... No Republican should accept their money. These men have more to offer than money.
