LGBT group protests firing of gay music minister at Germantown church

GERMANTOWN, Md. — On Sunday, a group representing LGBT Catholics protested the firing of a music minister at Mother Seton Catholic Church in Germantown. They claim the dismissal was discriminatory because he is gay and married to a man.

As the morning mass proceeded inside the church, a handful of protesters were outside in a show of support for Jeffery Higgins, a cantor who worked at the parish. A cantor leads public worship within a liturgy through music.

Higgins says he was terminated on Nov. 8, 2015 for a simple reason: “Because I’m gay and married to my husband, Robert [Higgins].”

Perhaps a Muslim "church" would be more understanding.

There's no data anywhere I can see, but the question from me is;

When was it hired and was there any defining question on an application that it lied about ?

If something had been employed for a year or so, and there was never an occasion to question its queerness ... then it was hired under a false understanding, and an intentional effort to hide that queerness

Whatever happened to freedom of association? If a church cannot define its own beliefs and be represented by employees who share those beliefs, then what is freedom of religion, speech, and association?

The question for me is: Who made the LGBTQ crowd head of the Christian Church? (sarc)

Churches are voluntary organizations and not run by the State. It seems odd that those who do not share the Churches values seem they are, nonetheless, entitled to employment or membership.

there goes the notion that gays just want to be left alone and not impose their life on Christians...

also when gays said how their lifestyle and marriage would affect heterosexueals, well here’s the proof they want to force Churches to hire gays

Darn right it is. The church discriminated between good and evil, and rejected evil.

Because they have learned this past year or two that they can get what they want if they make a fuss. Whole governments will roll over for them and their agenda.
Thank you, Obama.
Hell, even the Vatican is not immune!

I'll make a wild-eyed guess that the choir consisted primarily of frumpy old women dreaming of the 1960s.

since every single Novus Ordo parish has a so called ‘folk group’ consisting of frowsy old biddies (and sometimes their harried equally old husbands)strumming guitars and shaking tambourines, your wild eyed guess is actually a lead pipe cinch...

I’m all for firing all parish music directors everywhere; but then I’m all for disbanding the contemporary Catholic service as well...

I can’t fault the church on this one. He was a leader in the church services. If he was married to a woman and divorced her or if he was living with a woman outside of marriage I would expect the church would do the same.

Jeffery Higgins says there was one thing he hoped came out of Sunday’s protest.

‘That the story is told,’ Higgins says. ‘I hope people hear what happened to me and understand that this happens too often, and that it will start a process of bringing about a more accepting church.’’l

But the outcome from your ‘story’ is not what you demand. Instead it’s many people praying for the conversion of your eternal soul.

All these churches and church-affiliated organisations just need to do some preaching and proselytysing, have a series of sermons, on the sin and dangers of sodomy, complete with verses from both Old and New Testaments. I’d like to see how far the sodomites can take this with the complicity of the courts. I want to see if a sodomite in some office or position in a church, could sue the church for preaching from the Bible against sodomy and homosexuality. If by some miracle the church won the lawsuit, they should have a sermon about the sin of homosexuality at least once a month. Let’s just go ahead and see if things have gone so far wrong that a church could actually lose a suit for preaching a Biblical sermon against sodomy and homosexuality, from the church pulpit. Of course, the kind of church which would have no fear of preaching against sin, especially a lawfully and culturally protected sin like homosexuality, also wouldn’t have known or out homosexuals in any kind of church authority, leadership, or teaching position in the first place. But it would probably bring out the ones who didn’t declare themselves just so they could attain such a position, and then turn around and sue the church for Biblical preaching and Biblical stances on homosexuality.

Then we can see if it’s gotten to the point where the sodomites can vet what a preacher preaches from the pulpit, and censor the Bible. It would need a church which has maintained a Biblical stance all along.
