That is not accurate statement. Pat Buchanan made it all the way to the end of the contest taking over 20% of the actual vote. Despite being constantly maligned and smeared by the press he was runner-up to Dole and gave him a good challenge. During much of the primary season he polled much higher than 20%. Even with the strong support of the GOPe and mostly sympathetic coverage by the press, Rubio has been hovering around 10% in most polls up to the mid teens occasionally. There really is not a very good comparison here.

There have been plenty of issues that I have disagreed with Pat on, but he is a smart and tough old bird and a true conservative standard bearer. I was happy that he was very supportive of Trump in the interview.
