SAN ANTONIO – Texas-based Blue Bell Creameries, which stopped production and distribution of ice cream to 25 states in April after the discovery of listeria bacteria, said on Friday that listeria was discovered again in a production facility.

The company did not specify in a statement in which of its three facilities listeria had been found but said that none was found in any of its ice cream. Blue Bell said it is moving to eliminate the bacteria through a "seek and destroy" process.

I have. And unfortunately I don’t care for it as much as Breyers. That said, ice cream is like pie and cake. There is no such thing as bad pie or cake, just varying degrees of yummmm.

I must agree. I don’t ever remember not liking an ice cream, just liking Blue Bell more.

My point was also that Blue Bell ice cream is not the only brand made at those locations. In food manufacturing it's very, very rare.

The yummm rule does not however apply to beer makers.

Some beers are just unfit for human consumption. Right now I'm on a "High Cotton Scottish Ale" yummmm.

I tried to save a few bucks and bought something from Portland Oregon called "Long Ball, Dry Hopped Ale" My garden soil has enjoyed being enriched with the other 22 bottles I couldn't force down.

I’m probably wrong, but I cannot find any other brand that is made by Blue Bell.

You are correct. They are a premium sole brand maker. This seems to me to be part of Obama's war on Texas. It's very common for cold rooms in production to have condensation from above dripping from pipes, etc... Inspectors always sign off on merely hanging some visqueen plastic sheeting to catch and divert the dripping condensate.

The plants are on a HACCP plan which is audited not only by federal and state inspectors, but also by their insurance companies and retailers who hire out inspections. The plants are also accredited by AIB, which is the industry cop when it comes to food and food packaging. (American Institute of Bakers)

I suspected 0bama’s war on Texas when this first happened.

I think Blue Bell only makes Blue Bell.

They’re famous in Texas and have offered tours of their Brenham factory for as long as I can remember.

My uncle loved Blue Bell ice cream and always told us that when he died he wanted us to have him cremated, put his remains in a Blue Bell carton, and float him down the Frio.

That’s how good Blue Bell is.

;-)

I’ve taken the tour many times and may have to rethink having my ashes sprinkled in my deer feeder...

I buy raw milk from a local dairy and have never had any problems. People are always lined up out the door to buy their milk too.

Don’t be an ass. They were sabotaged by a hater, possibly a disgruntled employee.

Their response was to do the right thing, unlike Chipotle, Blue Bell shut down *everything*.

Massive impact on jobs.

They’ve been proactive in hunting down the problem even after all tests came back fine...which is how they found the new problem (which wasn’t even in their food supply).

This is not a paperbook world. You don’t just “give up” and fire thousands of employees (shutting down).

You man up. You fight the problem.

At Bil-Mar Food the listeria was found in the frost build up on the cooling tubes over the production line. Which was why it was so darn hard to find. The lines and all equipment were cleaned but when a bit of melted frost dripped off the tubes everything was contaminated again.

Blue Bell is going to have to start looking in unlikely places for their contamination source.

It is very difficult to trace the source of contamination like this.

Years ago there was a story in the New Yorker about similar contamination in one of the New York City hospitals. I think it was in the newborn nursery. It turned out it was in the aerator of one of the faucets. Fascinating story. Sad too.

Raw milk is illegal in many states. When we farmed in Wisconsin we just dipped the bulk tank for friends only. A lot of trouble there if not careful.

No real Texan thinks of Lone Star as the National beer of Texas. It’s a CA owned beer... Ask most Texans what their national beer is, and they’ll say Shiner
