The National Transportation Safety Board has released the first photos and video of the wreckage of the sunken El Faro as part of its investigation into the sinking of the American cargo ship near Bermuda in October.

It sank near the Bahamas, not Bermuda.
Looks like she settled on her keel, so all that damage to her superstructure was due to one or more damaging waves, I guess?
Does anyone know where the love of God goes

I’d guess that it had containers on deck.
Definitely in the triangle though....
60 Minutes had a report about it tonight. I didn’t watch, just listened from an adjacent room, rather than change it over to another FB game.
The captain had radioed that the engine had quit and they hadn’t been able to get it restarted. The voyage recorder hasn’t been found, but the NTSB guy guessed that the prop was out of the water, which meant the engine would shut down (safety feature). However, the captain also reported that one of the cargo hatches had popped open, and the ship was listing 15 degrees, which could have tipped the prop even more out of the water.
I have no sympathy whatsoever...I can recall that ship being warned not to venture into that storm and they did so anyway...I couldn’t believe that and I’m not in the business....it seemed like nothing but a grab for money...get the ship through and get a bunch of dollars.
Sad.
Not so .. In fact a sister ship coming from PR to Jacksonville, advised that the storm/seas were manageable.it was of the fact she lost her propulsion that caused her demise
Where those IPads? Talk about savvy marketing...
Freak wave. Very large and powerful.
Listen you heartless pant load. You sit around all day in your pajamas dialing in on the Internet and think that is exciting but 33 men of the sea went down with that ship. These are men that leave home and family behind and go out and face what God throws their direction and sometimes don’t survive the consequences. I guess it is pointless to think you could relate to what real men do for a living.
Aw shucks, I had JUST succeeded in wrenching that song from repeat mode in my brain after half a week!
Anyway, interesting mention of the hatches, they’re in the song too although I understand they figured out somewhat recently that she had actually split in half, iirc, no hatches involved for the Edmund F.
Brrr. I have a slight irrational fear of deep water.
Heh... that one has never been a problem for me, but getting tunes stuck in the brain can be a really nuisance. Usually it’s a tune I don’t like, but sometimes it’ll be one I haven’t heard in a long time, and I wind up whistling it, or rather, parts of it over and over, thus spreading the madness. :’)
Bump
What a jackass huh?
Man we got some real losers here
Used to be it would happen for a few days and then I would hear it on the radio. Random songs, not current popular ones (I don’t like any of those, lol). Hasn’t happened in a while, so maybe it’s switched over to coming across relevant FR articles instead. ;)
Luckily I’ve been mostly getting stuck on some early music, or old blues (”Dallas and Fort Worth Blues” by Leadbelly is a common one, and it’s one I’ve never much liked).
