Rush: Trump Acting Like ‘Donald McCain’ Against Cruz Raises ‘Red Flags,’ Not What...
Breitbart ^ | 14 Dec 2015 | Ian Hanchett

Posted on 12/14/2015 1:30:34 PM PST by Isara

...Rush Limbaugh criticized ... Donald Trump for his remarks about fellow candidate Texas Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia, saying the attacks raised “red flags” and that Trump’s attack on Cruz are “no different than what the Democrat Party would say” on Monday.

Rush said, after playing a clip of Trump calling Cruz a “maniac” in the Senate, “even people who are not particularly aligned with Cruz on the right have gotta be curious about this because this is no different than what the media would say about Ted Cruz. This is no different than what the Democrat Party would say. I mean, this is what the Republican establishment would say, for crying out loud.”

He continued, “He’s essentially put on his Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) hat here, saying, ‘I’m Donald McCain, and I’m the guy that can cross the aisle and work with the other side. Ted Cruz can’t.’ I was kind of surprised by that.” He also stated, “for somebody running for the Republican nomination, who has set himself up as anti-establishment, to join the establishment in that kind of criticism of Cruz, I don’t get it. It doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

".....And “Trump’s not trying to portray himself as a conservative, either. … so, it’s not a violation of that. But he’s clearly making himself out to be anti-establishment, and yet he joins them here. And then he dumped on Cruz for being opposed to ethanol? In other words, we as Republicans must support government subsidies to corn farmers in Iowa if we’re to have any chance of winning Iowa? We’ve gotta stand for subsidies? And that, again, is not a conservative position. To go after Cruz on that basis, is again the way the Democrats and the media would go after him.”

Yes, it’s true that settlers worked their butts off. And yes, affirmative action was about giving preference over those who ostensibly were more deserving. What I didn’t know was if that was really the case. I believed that a person deprived of a proper education would almost automatically perform more poorly than one who had had an adequate or above average education.

Even today, I know that slots at Harvard are going to blue bloods. They can give them to whomever they want, they’re a private institution. But even a public one would have trouble trying to balance this stuff.

I know that giving a kid baseball lessons with Pete Rose is for the most part giving him an advantage over some kid receiving baseball lessons from me.

Yeah, there's old Juan Cruz stabbing Trump in the back in what he foolishly thought was a secret meeting with his big donors. Playing the nuke button card on Trump.

Typical Trumpster. You draw erroneous conclusions from a reasonable question about Trump and you needlessly insult Ted Cruz by calling him Juan. What a moron!

Even if Cruz did criticize Trump in a private meeting (a fact not in evidence),

Lol, and that was another huge failing of Rush's today. Cruz's remarks were recorded. Just go the link in #23, then about half way down the page to the area that looks like a weird graph. There you can play the remarks by Juan Cruz to his big donors.

When Rush said the Cruz remarks were only based on a couple of sources, I sent him an email with the link. But who knows if anyone will ever see it.

Just decided to copy all you high class folks laughing at Rush's calling Trump, Donald McCain. Cruz definitely earned the Juan title by trashing Trump to his big donors in his little secret meeting.

What a moron you are.

Nobody thinks Trump is the most conservative candidate in the republican race. He is the most electable, he can’t be bought and his agenda is spot on.

Is Trump going to picket in front of the abortion clinics? No.

Is Trump going to crusade agains’t gay marriage? No

He says he’s opposed to both and that’s the best you are going to get out of him. If you are upset about it call the Supreme Court who brought both down upon us.

I never thought Trump was a Conservative.
He’s a Populist who leans right.

After two-plus decades of the GOPe sullying the Conservative brand, it’s probably the best we can hope to actually elect.

Rush spent a good deal of the third hour pointing out that he in no way is dumping on Trump.

Look, we conservative Trump supporters, KNOW Trump is not a full blown conservative. But we believe he is absolutely the best candidate for our side for this time. What you are doing is making good the enemy of perfect. Right now let us settle for attainable good rather than unobtainable perfect. Ted Cruz, under no circumstances, can win this at this time.

Get over this, hatred of Trump please. Be glad he is here and that we now have a chance to start to turn things around, where before we had none!

Do you really and truly think that Cruz and not Jeb Bush or Rubio, or maybe even Lindsey Graham, would be the nominee if Trump is taken down? Or is this what you want, because you know Cruz can be easily defeated, and Jeb Bush wins the nomination.

The time for ideological purity is AFTER we save our country. Right now, we need to stop the invasion on our southern border that will ultimately lead to the loss of our sovereignty, and we need to rid our party of the GOP elites, Trump is able to do both, and for right now, that is enough. Without Trump, the Washington Cartel remains entrenched, and our country is lost!

Is there ANY hope you can ever understand that? Or, again, are you a paid operative, representing those who are terrified of Mr. Trump, and just trying to poison the well?

I do agree though, he should exercise more discretion, and be very very gentle when criticizing his natural allies such as Ted Cruz but I guess this kind of discretion is not in his nature. And to be fair, Senator Cruz stating that Mr. Trump does not have the judgement to be president, was a perfectly terrible thing for him to say.

Trump is at the one yard line in Iowa and he is going to totally screw this up and lose to Cruz.

Attacking him the way he is will crash his poll numbers.

He should stop attacking Cruz in the silly way he is. Trump can win this hands down by attacking Cruz on his weaknesses not like this.

I think conservatives will get whip-lash at how fast he turns on them once in office.

His “go to Hell” demeanor will not be very pleasant when he has it towards Pro-lifers or anti-homosexual agenda Christians.

Cruz should very nicely respond something like this:

I like Donald Trump. I wish every American businessman were as successful as Donald Trump. We agree on many issues, disagree on a few. I am not going to attack him and get in a fight with him or any other republican candidate.

But Donald criticizes me for being unable to make deals. Well, it’s just this kind of deal making that got us in trouble. We don’t need deal-makers like McConnell, Boehner, and Ryan; we need someone with a proven record of standing up for the principles and values of the American people and the Constitution.

Yup. One thing people fail to note, and that is Cruz has CHOSEN to draft Mr. Trump. That speaks. It is an effective strategy to stay IN , but it isn’t a campaign. Same in the debates.

Is Mr. Trump the greatest? Um, no. But he brings a lot to the table. Is Mr. Trump a severely conservative (LOL) conservative? No. But most of the republicans and Indys aren’t either. His ideas and plans are not “hope and change” crap, they are solid and practical.

Can a conservative win without the Indy’s and a ton of republicans?

watching the video now and I can’t believe that is what Trump decided to hone in on. When Trump really has a problem with you this is not how he tries to tare you down. He said, he doesn’t have the judgement to lead and he went into the senate like a maniac. THey are competing against each other, should he be more like McCain and say, You have nothing to worry about with a Ted Cruz Presidency. Rush could have spent his whole show talking about what he said about Hillary which was much harder but obviously Rush wants Cruz to win he just doesn’t have the guts to take a stand for him so he’ll continue to pretend that he’s just and outside observer with not horse in the race. I like Rush but I think he has the wrong target here

Yes and so far Cruz’s main stategy that I have heard him voice is that he is going to wait for Trump to implode and then pick up his votes. That’s not what Rush would exactly call stategery. :-)

Cruz flip flopped on H1B, immigration and TPP within the last two years.

These are based on classic economic principles - that the free movement of people and goods are the way to optimize economic output. That Cruz has backed off a little from them reflects an understanding that these principles have to be tempered by a concern for the economic well-being of people already in these United States. It's not such a bad thing that a politician sets aside theory for practical concerns. In contrast, I don't see how Trump could have justified his past support for Obamacare, eminent domain and a one-time wealth tax by any reference to classic economic principles.

Similar to watching “Survivor” with Cruz’s strategy being to stay under the radar to make it to the final three.

I don't hate Trump one bit. I just don't think he's the most viable conservative candidate and think, in the end, he's just a more effective Romney (meaning he's a northeastern centrist who has modified his viewpoints in an attempt to win the nomination)(and I would respectfully note that the the "let us settle for the attainable good" argument is precisely the one the GOPe used to give us Romney and McCain previoiusly).

That being said, if he wins the nomination, I will support him.

I only ask that he and his supporters do the same with Cruz.

Isara, you do know that entire hour was Rush giving Trump advice on how to best take down Cruz, don’t you?

Not everything is as it first appears.
