Twisted Sister: Trump can use 'We're not Gonna Take It'
Washington Examiner ^ | 11/29/15 | Joshua Axelrod

Posted on 11/29/2015 6:44:34 PM PST by markomalley

Donald Trump has drawn the ire of musical acts like Neil Young, Aerosmith and R.E.M. for using their songs on his presidential campaign trail.

But it appears Trump has finally found an ally from the music industry in the form of Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who explicitly gave the billionaire mogul, who currently leads the Washington Examiner's presidential power rankings, permission to use their 1984 hit "We're Not Gonna Take It" as a campaign rally cry.

Snider told Canadian Business that Trump called and asked for permission to use the song, a gesture that he appreciated.

"I said, 'Look, we don't see eye to eye on everything — there are definitely issues that we're far apart on,'" he said. "But thinking back to when I wrote the song and what the song is about, it's about rebellion, speaking your mind and fighting the system. If anybody's doing that, he sure is."

Snider said that Trump and Democratic candidate and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are "raising holy hell and shaking everything up" as representatives of two extreme ideologies, and those two embody the spirit of "We're Not Gonna Take It."

Trump and Snider have worked together in the past, with the former firing the latter on "All-Star Celebrity Apprentice" in 2013. The singer doesn't hold grudges now, and even considers Trump a friend.

"I have spent time with Donald and his family," he said. "I don't think either of us expected that we would like each other, but you know, Donald Trump is a pretty chill guy. He's a frontman. When that camera goes on, he furls his brow, he does his thing. Off-camera he's very self-deprecating. He makes jokes about being too orange and about his hair."

The 60-year-old rocker is no stranger to working around politics. Any fan of MSNBC has probably heard his voice quite often and didn't even realize it.

"I've done documentaries, commercials, I was the voice of MSNBC for a year," Snider said. "I was the one saying, "'Hardball' with Chris Matthews, tonight at 8 on MSNBC."

As far as I’m concerned, if a recording artist has their music registered with ASCAP, then any political candidate should be able to play their songs as they would be paying royalties to do so.

Good news. Every time I hear this song, I now think of the TRUMP campaign!

Too bad about Neil Young, but a Southern Man don’t need him around. Nasty Canuck.

Exactly. Heart (Nancy and Ann Wilson) had a conniption fit when Palin used to play their “Barracuda” song.

The song definitely does match what Trump is presenting.

The name of Snider’s band, Twisted Sister, does however, better suit a certain Democrat candidate.

Here's one that Cruz should use. I'm sure the band wouldn't object

"Every time I hear this song, I now think of the TRUMP campaign"

Unfortunately, that is also the case (for me) with Fleetwood Mac's song that was ruined by the Clintons.

He is the greatest American since George Washington.

How about Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, or R.E. Lee?

If one systematically excludes all Virginians, one could make a stronger case.

I don’t think that he’s even as good as Coolidge, but given most of the dead wood around, he does look brilliant by comparison.

Coolidge looks brilliant compared to Hoover, and has incredible integrity compared to Franklin Roosevelt, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter and Clinton!

People tend to forget that Snider’s family is a mix of red and blue, and came from a Christian background.

It wasn’t a coincidence that Twisted Sister played a damn good and respectful hard rock version of “O Come all ye Faithful” on the Tonight Show years ago that was always taken down by Youtube but Freepers did see that show...

Neil Young is a lunatic canuck who was told by his famous band members to stop sympathethizing with the plight of Charles Manson, and who would form friendships and drop agreements and scheduled performances on a whim. He’s a fricken canadian a-hole.

Steve Tyler of Aerosmith looks like a walking advertisement of just how ugly excessive drugs can make one look. His mind is fried and is body and face are an advertisement to youth to NOT DO DRUGS. His many exploits included cancelling concert performances at the last minute because he was too drugged out to get on stage. He’s also a 1st class a-hole.

REM ...REM who? One-hit wonders with nothing of note for the record and who were so disillusioned to think they had more impact than the Beatles. Losers these a-holes be.

There are plenty of pop musicians out there for Donald’s campaign to draw on and who will be glad to attach their works to a rockstar politician like Trump.

This must be the weekend of very old, good music remembrances.

Just last night, Louie Prima and Keely Smith (That Old Black Magic). Today Fred Waring and Pennsylvania 6500. Long live the great artists and good music! Those were the days, my friend.

Coolidge looks great compared to everyone who followed him. Of the rest, Reagan is the only one who ranks better than a strictly neutral rendering of “not bad.”

But the post I was responding to held that Trump is the greatest American since Washington.

Exactly, every time I hear that particular song I change the Station.

I met Mick Fleetwood once. I should have mentioned my disappointment to him. LOL
